Stuff like this makes me feel old because I'd never make my squicks/triggers overly easy to find. It wasn't that long ago that I remember everyone trying to trick their friends into looking at goatse, or two girls one cup, or one man one jar, or any of the other shock sites.

Yeah, when did being triggered become trendy?

when tumblr decided mental illness was a fashion statement

I'm ready for it to be trendy to be untraumatizable.

A lot of people on Tumblr seem to list them in their 'about me' so people can tag them.

"yes, let me announce everything that bothers me to the whole world so i can expect them to cater their internet habits to me!"

fuck millennials

Eh, the current crop of whiny 16-year-olds are technically millenials, but so were the 80s kids who were among the "there is nothing too fucked up for the internet" school of thought that was prevalent up until the early part of the decade.

If anyone's to blame, it's the late-Gen-X helicopter parents who taught the tumblrteenies that the rest of the world is responsible for keeping them safe and happy.

i ain't even talking the 16-year-old twerps. i forgive them because they're too young and stupid to realize how fucking annoying they are.

i mean the mid-20-something grown-ass adults who should fucking know better.

I actually haven't seen much of that 'everything is triggering' attitude from the mid-20's people. Every time I see one they list their age as 14-17 and it's almost always aesthetic blogs with Love Live or Steven Universe icons.

Meanwhile the 20-somethings are mostly just shitposters or fandom blogs.

i've run into enough of them that i know they're a thing. tho you could still chalk it up to arrested development because of the helicopter parents.

The worst fuckin' think is 'don't follow me if you're kin with this character'. Kin meaning they think they are a fictional character or relate to them. They'll literally get triggered if someone else likes their favorite character.

See, I could see bringing that up to your friends. But I have (oh this sounds whiny) a fandom tumblr and it has about 500 followers and I have no freakin' clue what any of them have listed. Most I've never ever clicked on! It would rely on them following someone and the person going "Gee, I just got a new follower, I shall go search their page to find out what they want tagged!" It just seems like an awful system. I mean if they chose to follow my tumblr, why would I feel obligated to research this?

I mean as opposed to a RP site someone I know uses where you list off Yes things, Maybe things, and NO things to search profiles and help find compatible people to RP with, which makes sense!

I've seen some profiles where people list "here are things I tag, let me know if you need me to add a tag" so people who are proactive researching what/who they follow can take action to try to keep their dash the way they want it. I think that's better than announcing "you must tag this!" and expecting everyone to read it, but it's still not a perfect system because it relies on all parties being reasonable.

Then again, Tumblr is kind of a terrible system anyway.

The the of anti-ship crusader wears their triggers like a badge of honor to show how much of a victim they are.
