Because they're sexy~~~~~~~ and that's more important to people than the fact that they were disgusting monsters.

yep.

People have uniform kinks.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-15 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
There are uniforms besides Nazi uniforms, and there are Nazi analogues people stan for who don't wear Nazi style uniforms.

I don't think it's super wrong or anything but I wish people were a little more willing to engage with the pattern that obviously exists.

How did you quantify "most popular"? How many fandoms did you survey? I don't understand this secret.

Like, if you were talking about TFA and you were annoyed that Hux was a more popular villain than Kylo Ren, that would be one thing, but to make a general statement about all fandoms?

And Hux is *not* more popular than Kylo Ren.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-15 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. The only pairing I can think of in which this secret makes sense is Kylo/Hux and people, as far as I have seen, tend to focus more on Kylo Ren (which makes sense, he is a more developed character).

I honestly can't think of any more fandoms in which one of the pairings is 'Nazi'esque'.

Because Hugo Boss designed a damn sexy uniform. Can't deny those fabulous aesthetics.

Seriously, damn, why couldn't some other less genocidal state have gotten those uniforms. We wouldn't have nearly as much Nazi-inspired porn if they looked like they were wearing potato sacks like some of the Russian uniforms.

I don't. It's not a surprise to me at all. Have you SEEN fandom?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-15 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
But in which fandoms are the villains like Nazis? As in directly like Nazis?

People above mentioned Kylux. That makes sense, but I can't think of any more.

where's your excuse now

(Anonymous) 2016-09-15 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
the vast majority of sexeh nazi uniforms are not even the original designs that are supposedly so irresistable. let's face it, these designs are not so super special that a sleek design with boots and a coat wouldn't match them.

people just slap red accents on a dark uniform and give it an armband, tada, it's a nazi. so the appeal is 100% superficial evil nazi paint.

whether that's worse than closely studying the actual designs for aesthetic purposes is up to you.
now, whether it's better to get off the

That's actually an interesting point. It means that more than the actual sexiness of the uniforms, people are just responding to a certain image and kind of rolling with the *idea* of Nazi uniforms being sexy.
I never thought about it that way.
Like you say, I'm not sure what I find grosser though tbh

Wait, what happened to the rest of your post? Did it contain information that would lead to Hillary Clinton's arrest?

Well, see, some of us get turned on by stuff solely because we're not supposed to. Mental, eh?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
It's even weirder than that. Did you know that for a while, Nazi porn was almost the only porn available? In ISRAEL? http://www.atlasobscura.com/places/national-library-of-israel-s-hidden-stalag-collection

Nazi fetish is 100% weird and defies any easy, emotionally comforting explanation.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-15 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... I think at least 50% of the problem is that so many villains and villainous organizations are obviously Nazi-themed even if they're not literal Nazis.

It's actually hard to find a big Lawful Evil type of organization that isn't based on them, because Nazis are a recognizable evil that everybody immediately gets is supposed to be evil. Making your villainous empire a Nazi analogue saves the story valuable exposition time by not forcing it to go through all the details, and also often writers are too lazy to do all the work and build an original evil - especially a Lawful Evil one with a system in place, because systems require explanation and exposition. "Space Nazis" "Steampunk Nazis" "Medieval Nazis" is way easier to get.

Same goes for the Evil Church. They're tropes for a reason.

To follow up on this, most villainous organizations devoted to an ideal, as opposed to just rampaging and pillaging, are at least theoretically sympathetic. Who doesn't want to end poverty or root out government corruption? The Nazis have an ideal that's recognizable and understandable, but so abhorrent as to prevent sympathy.

Which villians?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-15 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I can think of a few popular villains and some have some genocidal tendencies, which is sadly not just the purview of Nazis, but only a couple groups really hit the similarity button for me (Death Eaters and Hydra).

Re: Which villians?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Those two and the First Order / Empire from Star Wars are definitely the big ones that spring to mind

I always figured it was the other way around - a lot of villains in very popular media with a lot of shippers are modeled after Nazis - like it's been said above, Hydra, First Order and the Death Eaters are all inspired by Nazis, and manga/anime is full of fictional Nazis, too. So it's not like people are cherry-picking those, the archetype is just really big. Maybe writers/creators should try branching out with what they base their villains on.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, this secret pegs me as self-righteous bullshit.

Like, okay, a lot of series' have Big Evil Military Industrial Complex organizations, which naturally have uniforms and dictators and such. That's not Nazi. That's generic military-government organization. Does the "genre" have some Nazi inspiration? Sure, we don't live in a vacuum, but other military-government organizations ~in uniform~ have existed throughout history, and how terrifying they are makes them a great villain.

And people are allowed to like the villains. Rarely do you see the villains being fawned over stuffing children and elderly into gas chambers and still have a fandom. You usually just see them being sulky and cool, maybe killing someone here or there or ordering a planet destroyed but you're not going to see the gory, devastating details. The series often intentionally portrays them as sulky and sexy, after all. At any rate, it shouldn't be any more horrifying to like the villain in uniform as opposed to the non-uniformed villain who commits the same level of atrocities. Liking a villain is liking a villain.

Finally, I actually don't think there are that many cases of this? When I think of the most popular villains, none of them are Nazi-esque at all? Unless you just hang out in Marvel fandom or something? lol

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm amused that you picked that super hot picture for your secret when that picture really explains well why people are into those villains.
