Personally, I really can't stand the Reylo ship one bit and yet all the bullshit the haters pull make me sympathise with the shippers.

Bit like "I hate your ship but I will defend your right to ship it without getting harrassed".

Well put :D. Yeah, there's pairings that aren't really my bag, either, but if I ever run into discussion or fic and so on about them, I just...scroll on past. I don't get why that's such a hard thing for some people to do.

People, especially on tumblr, make it seem like avoiding content you dislike is somehow impossible when it's really not. Sure, even if you blacklist most of the things you dislike, one or two will occasionally get past the block, but nobody forces you to sit back and stare at it for the rest of the day instead of scrolling on.

Blacklist and blocking certain blogs is a lifesaver. The people who are starting drama over shipping shit is because they stalk peoples blogs or go into tags they don't like just to have something to complain about.

I can't even begin to imagine how bored you have to be and how little real problems you need to have to actively go searching for things you don't like to complain about them.

Yeah, I don't have a Tumblr blog myself, but I've heard about all the things one can use to filter out content on there, so indeed, there's really no excuse. There's many places on the Internet in general where it's pretty easy to avoid things you don't like, and hang out with others who like the things you ARE into.

And besides that, these are fictional characters we're talking about here. I totally get being invested in the shows/books/movies one watches, and having opinions on this and that-I'm the same way. Everyone here can identify with being passionate about this or that piece of fiction to some degree :D.

But harassing people simply because they like two fictional characters together goes well beyond "invested" into, "You might want to step back and rearrange your priorities" territory.

I read a very fitting thing recently - "Fandom treats characters like real people and real people like characters" there's a lot of truth in that.

I mean, there are the occasional assholes who intentionally dump their hate into the tags but even those can be avoided if you blacklist their usernames as soon as they show up. There are plenty of options for filtering content.

I follow the same principle really, like sure there are ships I do not like and don't want to see but I'm not about to stop anyone from shipping them. Besides I don't go into the tag or follow anyone who ships things I don't like so I basically never see it. It's really not hard to manage, but then I think some people just like to feed on drama so they go looking for trouble.

(I have one person I follow who occasionally posts a ship I don't care for, but I like her other posts and said ship doesn't come up that often anyway so I have it blacklisted for when it does, remarkably life goes on).

I have a person like that as well on my dashboard. I can't stand that one ship but I love all the other things she posts, so filtering for that one thing is alright. And if someone I watch starts posting too much of a thing I dislike and it isn't balanced by more content I do enjoy, I can simply unfollow them again.
