Never in my life. But I like to imagine wacky or humorous or strange scenarios about celebrities. It's amusing to me. And I think you're overstating how close the connection is between wacky theories about celebrities, and total tinhat craziness.

I would not call that a headcanon. I would call that ordinary harmless daydreaming.

From what I've seen, the sorts of people who refer to their celebrity daydreams as "headcanons" are either tinhatting RPF writers, or the sort of otherkin wacko whose tumblr profile says "I am kin with Karkat Vantas, Princess Jasmine, and Ricky Gervais, please do not follow if they are also your kintypes uwu."

I think you ought to spend less time on Tumblr if it makes you this angry, or at least get better at blocking stupid teenagers, who are stupid, and teenagers

And yeah, I do think the culture on tumblr is full of bullshit and frequently toxic, but I'm not the first to say so, on this comm or on the internet in general, and I certainly won't be the last.

You're right. It's like angels on the head of a pin, this stuff. I do spend too much time on the philosophical nuances of a sentence like "I'm mad because I think it's disrespectful to make 'headcanons' about real people." It's fucking tricky-ass shit.

So basically what you're saying is:

1) No one ever uses hyperbole on the internets, nope, nosirree. That just doesn't happen.

2) Also, people aren't allowed to have opinions about what is and is not disrespectful. Some weirdo claims that a real person whom they've never met IRL is definitely gay/trans/asexual/[insert other identity here] and if you disagree you must be a homophobe in on ~the conspiracy~? Well, they're being perfectly reasonable, and YOU'RE the REAL weird one if you think they're being disrespectful and creepy! Because there's nothing remotely creepy about that at all. Not in the slightest.

First of all, yes. I am definitely saying that no one in the history of the Internet has ever used hyperbole. In fact, I don't believe that anyone in the history of the written word has ever used hyperbole.

Second, I sympathize with your concerns. I think that it is weird when people insist that a real person IRL actually, really does fit into some weird unlikely theory that they have. I don't know how relevant that was to a thread on fandomsecrets about which male pop singer would be the hottest lesbian. I think it was a little bit unrelated. I don't think that anyone here thought that Bruno Mars was actually a lesbian. Perhaps I'm wrong. Either way I strongly respect your burning desire for justice with regards to peoples' interpretations of celebrities on the Internet.

You seem confused about the definition of headcanon.

Nobody is making up another person's history and then treating it like reality, or pushing their own delusions on the world. These are just goofy, off-the-wall questions, with hopefully just as goofy answers. You know, like...

-If you could choose to have dinner with any person, living or dead, who would it be?
-If you could trade places with any famous person, who would it be?
-Which contemporary male pop singer would make the hottest lesbian?!

If you take everything in life seriously, you'll find it very hard to function in the morning. And the rest of the day.
