Because moral crusaders have been trying to link sexuality and morality forever and it's all crap? Masturbation doesn't make you go blind. Gay people are not automatically predators and criminals. People with kinks are not automatically bad people.

Not to mention a lot of people in fandom are women and western society has a long history of trying to convince women that anything remotely sexual is awful and wrong and means they're messed up and broken. Chewed up chewing gum that no one else will want.

Same. I think the community here is fine and all, but some that of the mentalities here are annoying.
Like, you can laugh and generalize huge groups of people make fun of teenagers all day (ie see all the werid hate-bonners everyone has for tumblr and "tunblerinas!!")

It's interesting how here, the tone is "YKINMK" while Tumblr is all about the ship hate for being too problematic. I am also highly squicked by child/adult ships and would prefer those ships not exist, but I also don't really want to associate myself with anti-shippers who criticize this stuff because they take it too damn far. I don't usually have a problem with aging up a child character for a ship, or big age differences between consenting adults. But according to Tumblr this is all pedophilia and equally bad. *eyeroll*

I find it hilarious how all the tumblrinas wig out about Shiro/Keith and try to liken it with a parent/child pairing (you know when most people name a character 'Team Dad' they're being metaphorical about it) or think its the same as an old man hankering over a 13 year old girl.

Wonder what mental gymnastics people might have applied to their other hated pairings to make shipping a "moral issue". I still remember how Harry/Ginny is considered creepy because Ginny having red hair means Harry wants to bang his dead mom or something.

So long as you're not harassing people I think it's fine to have misgivings over stuff like that, I personally don't really care what people do with fictional characters but I'd never tell anyone that they can't be bothered by incest ships or ships that involve an actual child character, especially if they're not aged-up(honestly that level of underage bothers me but I just stay clear of those corners and leave them to it).

It's the people who go around screaming 'pedohpilia' because a ship has an age-gap in it that annoy me, that's not what that words means.

idk I think "weird" kinks like this should be normalized (by which I mean, discussed and educated about w/ respect to all parties who care to be involved) so that people stop conflating them with actual pedophilia and child abuse. I feel like once people have an understanding of the people shipping things like this (mostly young women projecting onto the subject) we can be more aware of and vigilant of actual predators.

I get squicked by ships where one adult person has known the other since childhood. It's different if they're the same age (like high school AU's or childhood friends), but if one is 27 and has known the 16 year old since they were 7, it grosses me out. How can you think of them sexually? You knew them when they were very little!
