I dunno, there might be subtle differences in rapping you are actually picking up on?

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's racism but I am pretty convinced it's bad taste at the very least

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
It seems statistically unlikely that it's not some kind of prejudice. Maybe something about the content or the mindset or something, idk

My hypothesis would be that white rappers might rap about slightly different subjects. I mean, tbh, Eminem's the only big example I can think of that I actually know some lyrics from...and, they don't seem very typical.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Right but it's also (a) not a universal thing on either side - there's a wide diversity of shit that black rappers talk about - and (b) difficult to see how you can end up consistently disliking black rapper viewpoints without there being some prejudice along the line somewhere.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't say its necessarily racial prejudice though. Especially if OP thought the rappers WERE black.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno if it is but I also dunno what else it could be

Uh...Maybe it has nothing t do with viewpoints and everything to do with the sound of their voice?

I would be fascinated to see your statistics on this.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I DO think that white rappers sound different from black rappers, in general. Dunno why.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
If you like the music, why does it matter what color the musician's skin is?

If it really bothers you, donate at least as much money to the NAACP or ACLU or w/e as you spend on music each year.

First, rap is a black art form on some pretty inextricable level. That doesn't mean it's exclusively black but it is one important dimension.

Two, again, it is enormously improbable that someone who liked rap and didn't care at all about race would end up listening to predominantly white artists.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's like saying that punk is a white art form on an inextricable level because it sprang from discontent in British working/lower classes. Simply because it came from a group doesn't mean that it's unmovable from them.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my bad didn't realize all poor working people in Britain are white.

I do this too. A lot of the hiphop and rap I tend to like I later find out are white artists. Not all by any means, but it's often enough for me to have noticed. I always feel oddly vaguely guilty about it.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Not rap, but the "thinking a white singer is black" thing is never more clearly demonstrated than the case with Sam Smith. Everyone makes that frickin' mistake. Why? No idea. I think a lot of people just associate deep voices with black singers, and that might be because that's been the case for many years.

Another example: Rag'n'Bone Man. Also white.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
How do you find new artists to listen to? Maybe it's a matter of who gets played more on a particular radio station or "If you like X, you'll like Y" types of recomendations. There might be a bias that isn't yours at play.

Unlike the anons in this thread, I doubt it's due to racism. Listen to what you want and go on with life.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
I said prejudice, not racism.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I assume you're the same anon who's going around saying stuff like "I don't know what else it could be" and "rap is an inherently black form of music" then honestly it seems like you're the prejudiced one.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
The only reason you think it matters is because you are made to think it matters by the sjw. You're allowed to enjoy what you enjoy. It does not matter.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a stupid fucking opinion

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
How so?
