(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 12:05 am (UTC)(link)this woman is my grandmother by the way. my grandfather's business fell flat, which happens, but now because he's the only one providing... they just can't afford it.
but is this right? is this normal? they have us, and we're gonna get through this as a family, but I just feel like it's so ridiculous and wrong, she didn't choose to have cancer

(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 12:31 am (UTC)(link)Maybe it would be better if you could just kick people in the face until they shut up or something, every time they talk about something that's upsetting them. Then you wouldn't have to deal with reminding them that life isn't fair every time they obviously forget that and show it by stupidly opening their mouths.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 12:43 am (UTC)(link)It's possible to say that the system we've built is the best possible system even if it does have consequences like this. But for Pete's sake defend it on that ground, and not on the ground that it's a result of some kind of naturally-ordained necessity.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 01:38 am (UTC)(link)Unfortunately this happens to a lot of people, with or without the cancer, so I'm not sure how it's overly relevant?
It totally sucks though and things definitely need to change when it comes to supporting people who are in dire straits due to unforeseen circumstances, especially since presumably as your grandparents, they're not really of an age to just pop out and get new jobs.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 02:39 am (UTC)(link)She can't work because she developed cancer and went through treatment, how is that difficult to understand lol

(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 04:05 am (UTC)(link)That was not clear at all. Lots of people go through cancer treatment and are still able to work, often at the same job they had before. My mother did it 3 times. I'm sorry about the situation your grandparents are in, but I was confused, too.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 11:00 am (UTC)(link)That's not the point anon above you was trying to make either.
Good grief.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-08 02:20 am (UTC)(link)I've had to weather things like this several times (head injury, car accident, severe medication reaction). The adjustment period is horrible, but eventually you learn how to deal. And after enough times, you end up sighing, "Not this again." It ultimately gets easier, even though it doesn't feel like that in the moment.
There's a saying: "Bad things happen to good people", but I would also add the corollary that those who struggle the most happen to end up being the nicest, just in my personal experience.
I really hope the transition doesn't end up being too terrible or drawn-out. *sends positive vibes*
