Come on, you have to link this artist or at least namedrop them, now.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-16 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I know who you are talking about. I wish she could put her stuff under a cut.

Who???

(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Who are they talking about!? I want to see it. I'm not even going to make a stupid "it's for research" joke here, I wanna see the smut damnit.

Why does that matter at all for SFW art?

I get why it makes a difference for NSFW art but I don't understand the point of including that information when it makes no difference. Unless the SFW art is always pointedly illustrating the physical differences all the time?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-16 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Same anon

I mean, why does him being a trans guy in headcanon or not matter if you're looking at SFW art that doesn't show any difference? Wouldn't you just see "Keith."?

Or do you have the NSFW things in mind when you look at the SFW ones?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-16 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen art of trans guys where they show them wearing binders, or show scars from top surgery when they're shirtless. I see what you mean though.

I'm not OP, but I think the gist of it was that they had no idea the artist headcanons Keith as trans in like everything they draw of him, so they had a "cis expectation" and when they found the NSFW stuff the illusion was shattered and it made them "weirded out" for a bit. It's pretty common IRL for people who have met me and then later on find out I'm not a cis man but a trans one to have a weird re-adjustment period because they're just so used to automatically assuming I'm a cis man. The good people ultimately don't care, but for lots of cis people it's still a "I've never knowingly met a trans person before" deal and it gives them some stuff to think about.

I think it might be this, but on a micro scale here.

Is that that terrible artist who draws all the characters as looking like they're from Lilo & Stitch or Mulan? I don't know how they could be anyone's favorite fanart; the characters look exactly nothing like the actual canon characters.

(This artist is quite popular, which is why I ask.)

(Anonymous) 2017-04-16 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, it's all fine as long as you tag it in fic/art so my filters will catch it.

I see trans!Pidge all the time, but this is the first I've heard of trans!Keith. Huh.

Who's the artist?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
If anyone knows, please tell!

My gut says "loinchops," but my sense of good taste hopes it's someone else.

For reference, here's some of their NSFW Shiro/Keith with trans!Keith:
http://loinchops.tumblr.com/post/153783170534/shiro-introduces-keith-to-the-wonders-of-the

Here's canon Shiro:

Here's canon Keith:

It's unfortunate because their art is actually pretty good/hot if you're into that, but calling it "fanart" is hilarious. The characters have zero resemblance to their canon selves.

What in the actual fuck. The fanart looks nothing like the canon characters. Not my fandom, but why are they popular?

...What the fuck? Who wrote the rule that fanart has to be carbon copies of the show? It would get pretty boring if all fanartists competed for who could draw the most on-model, style-aping fanart they could.

I think this artist's style is actually pretty cool, and they're still recognizable as the characters. It looks like a more semi-realistic, stylistic sort of rendition of them, and I think their art is pretty pleasing to the eye. I don't like when fanart is just endless generic animu boys. It gets to the point where I can't even tell artists apart when looking at their pictures.

I know there are other artists thaw draw NSFW/SFW trans!Keith so there's only a certain probability that this artist is the one OP is talking about, and I'm pretty sure the reception here is going to assure that OP doesn't say even if it is. I would imagine this is why they didn't post who it was:

These types of threads seem to turn into "ewww why do you like that", let-us-shit-on-OP's-taste threads. It happened when I referenced some artist a long time ago in a secret and ever since then I've taken to using the the anonymous references tactic too.

Also, you posted a NSFW picture from this artist's tumblr where it's pre-canon. Shiro has neither his Galra arm, his face scar or his distinctive white stripe in his hair yet.

Let's be real, Shiro is a pretty cookie-cutter character without those specific signifiers. Keith is still generic, like he comes from the Moody Black-Haired Teenage Boy protagonist Factory and he has the same canon haircut in the NSFW photo so I don't know what more you're asking for there, and for Shiro, like I said, pre-canon so he's missing basically everything that says "Shiro" to the audience.

The only real difference in their art I can point out is that the face style isn't anime.

Re: Who's the artist?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, get your eyes checked. The faces are wrong, the body shapes are wrong, the hairstyles are wrong, the eye colors are wrong, the skin colors are wrong. There's "not a carbon copy" and then there's this, and this is laughably not Shiro/Keith. Like it or not, Shiro&Keith are characters drawn in a certain style, and that style is not this.

But thank you for providing evidence that the artist is somehow popular enough that people will come and defend their ~vision~. I looked at some of their low note counts while I was trying to find a piece to link, and I wondered how I'd even seen their art in the first place.

Not into Voltron, but that is hilarious omgg. Fanart like that reminds me of why I've gotten sick of Tumblr.

There's another artist who draws trans Keith, someone who doesn't make me want to kill myself like that abortion you linked. I think that's probably the one OP is talking about, but I blocked them months ago, I don't remember their username.

I actually commented about this specific artist on here a few months back! Like, it's well done art, but if it weren't for the tags I would have literally no idea who the characters were supposed to be. Shiro looks more like Li Shang from Disney's Mulan than his canon self.

I never know how to react to fanart that doesn't even vaguely resemble the canon look of the characters. I wouldn't call it ugly - it's not ugly, but it's not Shiro and Keith, either.

Keith looks like a slightly chubby, very hairy Asian woman. I can't tell if he has breasts or not?

I never see any trans!keith art that isn't ALL ABOUT HIS VAGINA, like, to a creepily fetishistic extent.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's the case with an overwhelming majority of transmale headcanon fanart AND fic (which is in a huge amount of cases all about PIV sex and impregnation as well). Makes me think that at least a decently sized part of the trans headcanon fetish fandom is only using trans as an excuse to ship in the big popular slash fandoms without having to touch the icky gay sex part of it.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I've noticed this too! But I've also noticed their top surgery scars tend to be huge and very noticeable, also to the point of fetishism. They rarely try to make the poor dude appear masculine, either. So there he is, with scars like glowing beacons, and still looking like a woman.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
S!A although feminine transmen tend to appear more in headcanon art than in porn, to be fair. At least from what I've experienced.
