OP's talking about sex, so you may want to rephrase that. Unless, of course, you're into blowing oddly colored deer over a sink or something.

YKINMKATOK!

If you're sex positive, you gotta be sex positive, and that includes being sex positive for virgins and people who like vanilla sex

Well said.

And you can support something IRL without caring to read about it in fiction. Most people probably wouldn't read a novel that was all day-to-day minutiae of being an accountant, or a weather analyst, or a sewage treatment worker. But we're happy those people exist and are doing their jobs.

I love your icon. It's very pretty.

Also, your comment made me laugh, so thanks for that.

Exactly. I really don't understand this secret.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-20 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
+1

And hey, what you want to read fic about is just whatever you want to read fic about. You don't have to purposefully seek out kinky fic or meet some kind of fanfic porn quota just to prove your sex-positivity.

I feel like there's a lot wrong with this secret, but I can't really give voice to my qualms.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-20 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
What's bothering me is the suggestion that the extent to which one is sex positive and what one likes to read porny fanfic about need be related in any way.

A lot of us have internalized the idea that romance isn't kinky, your first time should be special, etc., but there are no problems with pursuing those standards while being sex positive, as long as those ideas don't go hand in hand with the potential for shaming yourself or anyone else, so when we're only talking about reading fic, dude, relax. The only problem here is I'm confused with how "gay for you" fits into that as you've discussed it. Gay isn't inherently kinky, but I think you mean the inclination comes from that "special first time" standard? IDK, you don't have to do GFY to make a character have an unexplored gay attraction, and in most cases I don't find that very hard to buy, but YMMV.

I find your second paragraph a little confusing though.

...Something about this secret and the way you talk about LGBT people bothers me. Maybe it's because the way you treat straight as default and don't buy the, "OH BY THE WAY I'M GAY" shit when... People really don't go around going, "OH BY THE WAY I'M STRAIGHT." Like, you won't buy chemistry and it has to be spelled out, which is something that annoys me in fiction. Straight couples don't need that explicit confirmation, but gay couples always do...

(Anonymous) 2017-04-20 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
THIS right here. I mean, the problem is reinforced by writers even bothering with a guy mentioning "those blowjobs I gave in college" or a gal thinking about that time she rolled around with a girl at a sleepover, but the default is not that you have to justify non-straightness, regardless what's shown on the screen. IMHO.

Something about this secret bothers me although I can't really put into words what exactly it is.

Also, it doesn't really make sense.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-20 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
So what is it??? Is it what makes sense to you, is it what turns you on, or is a poorly written trope. MAKE UP YOUR MIND.

I love gay first times and they are basically non existent in my current fandom! I prefer kinky gay first times. I can't tell if you'd think that was better or worse.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-20 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe your sex-positivity as made it so you hesitate to think about characters being kinky because that might feel like you're projecting kinks they may not share onto them and part of being sex positive means not trying to convince people they should be having the kind of sex you think they should be having, kinky or not, of it's not what they want??

(Anonymous) 2017-04-20 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm having a comprehension problem and don't really understand this secret. :(

(Anonymous) 2017-04-20 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's not you, it doesn't really make sense.

[personal profile] digitalghosts 2017-04-20 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
As others said - your secret is strangely worded, OP.

I assume that you meant liking characters exploring sexuality together for first time which somehow is not what you fancy in person. Would say it is quite standard as plenty people like to read about different kinks (or lack) than they enjoy with partner(s).

The part of straight folks being straight while being in a gay or lesbian relationship is doable as it is irl as are folks who discovered other sexualities with new partners. However, would not say that forcing characters into stiff boxes of 'forever straight as was before that' or 'forever been gay just never told my exes :D' are about samish so would not say second is more progressive.
