Aw, I like POTC. Although it's mildly annoying to me that they are bringing The Turner Family Show back. I liked 4 better than the others because it didn't have the mawkishness of the Will & Elizabeth storyline in it. (Also because mermaids, and because Blackbeard was a really excellent villain.)

I'm glad they are bringing back the Turners because maybe it means there will be a bit less Jack at least. The movies were better where he was there but not so front and center. The more Jack there was the worse the movies got.

I'm not thrilled about the Will and Elizabeth storyline coming back, but like philstar22 said, at least it hopefully means that the movie won't have to rest entirely on Jack Sparrow as the main character. It was just too much. (Though the mermaids were badass and I'd love to see more of them!)

Apparently he has horrid spending habits though so he'll basically never retire.

LOL at "water-logged revenant", which is nicely descriptive and also fits with his current film portfolio. I also hear you on the Dorian Gray. But sadly, he can't afford to retire. Despite making ridiculous money, he spends like a drunken sailor, and is now having monetary difficulties.

His ass is so heavily kissed by the entertainment industry and it doesn't even make sense anymore. He was able to demand a rewrite of the recent POTC movie because he didn't like the female villain. Meanwhile aside from that property he's not much of a box office draw anymore but producers are still shelling out a fuckton to make everyone relive the late 90s/early 00s with diminishing returns.

And I think he can act, but he learned at some point that he doesn't have to and has been laughing all the way to the bank.

He was so much more appealing to me before POTC made him a profitable actor. I loved him in Ed Wood.

you know, I find it kind of bizarrely heartening that a dude is getting ragged on for looking his age in hollywood

but as a non-hypocrite, I really think both sexes should be allowed to age like human beings without being shuffled quietly out of sight

(the abuse allegations are another story, which is...yeah. but in general principle, he's allowed not to be a magic ageless dandy, omg.)

After the first 3 movies I stopped paying attention. I love Pirates of the Caribbean but Johnny Depp completely ruined them for me. That video of him drunk and slamming stuff around just brings up all sorts of bad memories.

I also feel bad for the people who put work and passion into the new PotC movie having to deal with his shit and his nasty reputation dragging them down with him.

It just makes me sad how bad things have got with Depp, especially because I have a place in my heart for the original POTC movies. (Ok, maybe not the second one so much.) He clearly has problems he's not getting help for.
