Overused words
(Anonymous) 2017-05-26 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)On tumblr, it's "terrifyling." Finally I figured out why it bugs me (besides overuse) - "terror" is a fairly extreme emotion, and the people who call things "terrifying" often had this attitude that if you don't agree that whatever it is is terrifying, you're wrong or you just don't understand. But I don't usually have such an extreme reaction to things, even if I don't like them or would be careful around them.
When I was a teenager, I remember "disturbing" being used a lot. I think it bugged me, but now I'd prefer it. There are plenty of things I find disturbing, but not terrifying.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-27 12:01 am (UTC)(link)I knew someone who used this tendency to get away with talking about how they wanted to physically assault people for shipping things ("but they're pedophiles"). I've become convinced that some or a good number of people on tumblr using the accusation so they can now justify being creepy levels of aggressively violent about ships they don't like without any criticism.

Back in the day, people would call meta "thinky thoughts" and that phrase made me want to throw a couch at them and then jump up and down on their bones.

Especially when it's described as 'the discourse' that word just makes me so annoyed now.
It's like people trying to prop up their wank to be more important than it is.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-27 12:25 am (UTC)(link)Basically used by pedophiles or pedophile apologists who just want to try and squirm out of the pedophile label by trying to invoke a technicality.
