This sounds like something from a DARE class, but drinking alcohol/smoking weed/something cigarettes/vaping doesn't make you cool.

There is this trend on tumblr where posts have 50-500k+ notes about needing alcohol to live and that weed's not addictive. Like oh, you're so ~*~edgy~*~ and ~*~grown up~*~ for doing those things. People wear it like a badge of honor.

I just don't get why so many people are so over the top when you *don't* do those things.

Like everyone knows they are bad for you (yes even weed can be bad for you) but I feel like I get such judgement from people from doing none of it.

I have enough problems I don't need addiction on top of it, plus that shit gets expensive. I spend less money since I stopped drinking.

Oh, I had a friend tell me that if I didn't go clubbing with her, I was going to ruin the weekend and I shouldn't be afraid of drinking because it's a sin or something.

Fortunately she took the hint when I called her out on it, but sheesh.

Clubbing friends can sometimes be the worse because they are sooooo inclined to guilt if you don't want to club with them.

Even when I did drink I still hate clubbing, I hate the music, I hate dancing at those sort of scenes, I hate the men there, etc etc etc.

I'll agree with this. I don't care if people enjoy a drink in moderation and are responsible with their drinking, and I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke or weed, but if people want to smoke that stuff on their own time, well, that's their choice to make.

But yeah, that attitude you mention is kind of obnoxious.

Yeah, like, drinking is fine and I don't care if you smoke as long as it's not by me, but then there's the people where it's the ONLY thing they talk about. Like it's their defining characteristic(s).

I admit, I do find smoking "cool." That said, it is so very, very not worth spending thousands of dollars, aging prematurely, and dying young for.

Yeah, I don't smoke for that exact reason. But god damn, is there anything more badass than a cigar? Marvel can go fuck itself for making Wolverine quit.

My unpopular opinion is that smoking doesn't look cool at all. Even people who don't smoke and disapprove of smoking go on about how it looks cool, and I just don't see it. Especially when it looks like the smoke is getting in their eyes.

It's a combination of factors. But like anything 'sexy' not everyone will see it the same way.

There's cultural connections with danger, sex, etc. that people's minds automatically associate with smoking. There's also a big emphasis brought to both the fingers and the mouth. Being able to visibly see someone inhale and exhale the smoke is intimate. Plus, taking a drag hollows out the cheeks, like sucking a dick.

I... uh... spent a lot of time watching hot dudes smoke as a teenager.

I've heard the phallic connection before but cigarettes are so small I can never take that idea seriously.

idk, I don't really buy the "cigarettes are like dicks" thing, either. The sucking can be hot but yeah they're too small.

It's not an exact thing, it's just a lot of individual elements that come together to make something hot. Like... lingerie. Or uniforms. Just taken on their own, there's nothing sexy about them. But you smash them together with a lot of cultural/social concepts and then stick them in a sexual context and suddenly you have something that a lot of people think is sexy.

I agree that those things don't make you cool, but I am also a big fan of those things and I don't think there's a problem people talking about any of them.

What makes me eyeroll the hardest is when people reblog pictures of pot or bud or whatever and drool over it like it's food porn. Jesus, get a life, you potheads.
