God I hate fanon Dick Grayson.

Comics are full of fetishistic female characters, can't there be a male character too?

Well, I don't buy Dick as "queer-coded," anymore than I buy Johnny Storm as "queer-coded," but I can see why some people do so.

The article isn't entirely wrong. Dick is an idealized character; he's nice, he's sympathetic, he's attractive; and he does get a lot of disrespect from homophobes.

Homophobes! Yes! Thank you for making the distinction instead of just saying "straight men" like that fucking article did.

I think the description for Nightwing: The New Order is far more rage inducing than that article you've linked. It may be fair to criticize the article, I don't really know, but I can't dig your priorities if that's what bothers you most about this whole thing.

I'll leave the whole DKR thing alone - Frank Millar has his issues and I dont know if i can argue against them in good faith - except to say that a mantle being picked by a female character does NOT mean the mantle is feminine.

People didn't want ROBIN to die. People hated Jason Todd. Primarily because he wasn't Dick. He was living in dick shadow and couldn't live up to it. You remember dick, the guy we're all afraid will turn us gay? We missed him so much that this snotty punk felt like an insult to the mantle of robin.

Its certainly a valid interpretation of what she was saying, but personally I was reading it more in the "Women are the only ones who get raped! What? Dick was raped? Yeah but that doesn't count since he's basically a woman" style. Not that they want Batman to be raped and more that they see nightwings rape as further victimisation of women.
