Favorite Actors

Have you ever watched or bought a movie/show based solely on an actor in it (not for the plot or genre, etc.)? Have you sought out obscure or hard-to-find stuff because of an actor? What have you looked for and who was the actor?

Yes.

I had to go to places i never knew existed on the internet to find some obscure UK movie from thirteen years ago. Some movies they've made took about five years to get a distributor so I paid a netflix fee once just to see it.

Also three months ago I paid 20$ for king kong to literally watch one person. I'm waiting for The Circle to leak just to see another person who is not in it for too long so why pay...

Sooo many movies.

I've watched a lot movie for Michael Fassbender. Some good (Eden Lake, Frank, Slow West, and Macbeth) and some bad (The Counsellor and Centurian). I even rewatched a movie I really don't like (300) because he was in it.

I also watched Doom for Karl Urban and that is now one of my guilty pleasures.

I watched Push and Snowpiercer for Chris Evans. I liked both of those movies as well.

There are other actors but those are the main ones.

One of my past roommates and I would go on Actor Marathons. We'd pick an actor we both liked, then just search out movies they were in and watch all of them. The best run I can remember was Ryan Reynolds. That dude has been in some random movies, but gotta say he's decent in all of them.

I've watched...a lot of weird movies because of David Hewlett during my SGA days. Nothing, The Boys of St Vincent, Where the Heart Is, Treed Murray....I think there might have been others. Admittedly, I skimmed through a lot of the movies but still.

I feel like there are a bunch I'm blanking on, but I do tend to be that person who goes on sprees finding other works when I like an actor or actress.

I watched The Fall and Pushing Daisies because of Lee Pace (both excellent). And I got Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and Marmaduke for the same reason but I haven't gotten around to watching them yet.

I've looked up several obscure (to me) TV shows Richard Armitage was in. I actually really liked the Golden Hour. I also watched the tornado movie he was in.

And I learned about The Almighty Johnsons because of Dean O'Gorman. Still haven't seen more than the pilot though.

I often get it into my head that I'm gonna watch every movie by a particular actor, so I do this a lot. Armie Hammer was the most recent one, and there are some odd little things he did a few years ago floating around, especially a short film adaptation of 'Harrison Bergeron' on youtube. I need to get out more.

Honestly, most of the things I watch are things I watch or am initially into largely because of who's in them.

If not the most obscure, at least the oldest (and only ones I can think of in this brief interlude from packing up my life to move to another state) are from a Dean Stockwell phase I went through six or seven years ago after a rewatch of Quantum Leap.

Yes. I've seen everything Chris Hemsworth has ever been in (as far as I know), even the crappy Red Dawn remake.

Cillian Murphy. I will watch anything with him in it. (99% of the time I truly enjoy the movie though.)

Most recent was Free Fire. I loved it.

Yes, many times. At one point, I was deep into an obsession with Richard Roxburgh and I bought an Australian cop drama he was in on VHS tapes, and I no longer had a VCR. (Eventually I gave them away, never having seen them. Plus, they weren't in North American format, so I wouldn't have been able to see them anyway without outside help!)

This is one of the reasons I love Jason Isaacs and Mark Strong -- they have been in some pretty crappy things, but they are always good in them.

saw the number 23 because of jim carrey - and vowed never to watch a movie because of a particular actor ever again :p

that said, i watched lucy because the idea of watching scarlett johansson kick things for two hours didn't seem like something that could go wrong

Many, many times.

Thomas Gibson has made some truly memorable role choices. The Devil's Child was awful, as was The Monkey King. Psycho Beach Party was so fucking camp and worth it to see him in a corset. And while it's weird Canadian cinema--Love & Human Remains has been a long time fave.

I watched a lot of movies/tv shows for Brendan Coyle...except I didn't watch Downton Abbey (I've been a fan of BC's since I discovered him in a uk cop show called Thief Takers...his character was Bob "Bingo" Tate...and Bingo stood for Bollocks I'm Not Going Out. AND he did the "undcover in a gay bar" thing in that show as well...it was awful but I liked that show).

If there's an actor or actress I really get into, I tend to watch everything of theirs I can get my hands on.

I own over 50 movies starring Robert Downey Jr. I even own one that I will never watch ("Less Than Zero") that I picked up because it was five bucks and I hoped my small contribution would be a data point for them to release more of his backlist on DVD.

I have bought movies from India on eBay because Allu Arjun was in them.

This reminds me, I should watch one of the ones I haven't seen yet.

Yup.

Stalking an actor-crush's back catalogue is a great way to change up my viewing habits. While there have been a few duds, I've also found some movies that have become regular comfort viewing which I'd never have looked at else.

I hereby nominate Love and Other Disasters, this little Brit ensemble romantic comedy that makes me so very very happy.

I've watched a bunch of Jeri Ryan movies/shows just for her and would be willing to watch more if I could find the indie stuff anywhere. Most notable is Dracula 2000, which aside from fanged Jeri hotness is worth it just for the hilarious floating sex scene alone.
