Probably but who cares

actual trans people whose identities are more likely to be dismissed because of morons trying to gain Oppression Points, would be my guess

Re: do transtrenders actually exist?

The thing is that there's no reliable way to tell who's pretending to be trans and who is "really" trans. There's no way of attacking "transtrenders" without attacking transgender people generally.

nah, it's actually pretty easy. if someone claims to be trans but says they don't have dysphoria, they're a faker. see? easy.

Let's take as given for a second that only all trans people are necessarily dysphoric.

If that's the case, do you believe that all non-dysphoric people are cis? Or are there some people who are not cis but also not dysphoric?

yes.

Is this some sort of Michael Bay spin off thing?

Re: do transtrenders actually exist?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
if only. that might be slightly less insufferable than the reality.

Re: do transtrenders actually exist?

You see them all over Tumblr, so yes.

Re: do transtrenders actually exist?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I know one, so yes

Re: do transtrenders actually exist?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely, I know several.

Re: do transtrenders actually exist?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. My estimation is about 80 % of people who claim to be trans and/or nonbinary/genderfluid and list more than one set of pronouns on tumblr or any other social media site are trenders.

Re: do transtrenders actually exist?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
This. All of the actual trans people I know don't make a big deal out of being trans. I actually didn't even know one of my friends was trans until I'd known him for nearly a year - I just thought he was a cis guy until he mentioned being on hormones one day.

Re: do transtrenders actually exist?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
So your position is that you feel qualified to judge the validity of the gender feelings of every person on earth based on the particular trans people you know personally? Seems reasonable

Re: do transtrenders actually exist?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-18 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt but

no one is qualified to judge the validity of "gender feelings" because no "gender feelings" are valid to begin with. either you're dysphoric or you're not. end of.

All of the actual gay people I know don't make a big deal out of being gay. I actually didn't even know one of my friends was gay until I'd known him for nearly a year--I thought he was a straight guy until he mentioned having a boyfriend one day.

Re: do transtrenders actually exist?

i mean, i think there is a meaningful distinction to be made about people trying out identities and people calling themselves trans because it's in.

Re: do transtrenders actually exist?

DA

Yeah that's what bugs me about the term transtrender. I don't doubt people who fake identities because it's the cool thing to do exist. I'm sure they do, just like people who fake being suicidal or fake mental illness to look tragic on the internet. It's that all the confused kids who aren't sure about their identities who are genuinely trying things out to see if they are or not, who may decide later that they were wrong but aren't doing it just to be cool, are lumped into that category with them and accused of faking it for attention.

k but it's all meaningless anyway because gender is a bullshit social construct, not an innate biological thing

Possibly, but the concept is pretty clearly being used for witch hunts against anyone whose gender issues are not strictly binary.

"Witch hunts". Ok lol.

Trans is only "trendy" within small media and campus bubbles. The rest of us have to negotiate with workplace dress codes, pervasive medical discrimination, partners who either loose their shit and get violent or treat it as a kink, and street harassment.

well a friend of mine used to date this person who was totally comfortable being a feminine girl until they went to college and then they decided to identify as a trans guy for a couple of years (probably relevant note: friend and person both immediately got involved with a group of EXTREMELY social-justice oriented peeps as soon as they got to college.) they had zero dysphoria and didn't bother to try to present as male half the time. after friend and person had been dating for a while, person cheated on him with their (male) roommate and after they broke up went back to identifying and presenting totally female again. so I am pretty sure I observed a trans trender in the wild. I haven't spoken to them in a few years tho so who knows what they identify as now.

Re: do transtrenders actually exist?

Probably some, but imo mostly its a term used to attack kids who may be unsure or confused about their gender identity.

Like. Its fucking okay to be unsure of your identity. Its okay to try and see if something is the right fit, and its okay to decide it might not be. There is nothing wrong with that, and calling people "trenders" will just make people defensive. Its shitty in the same way accusing every bi kid of just secretly being gay or attention seeking and every gay kid of just going through a phase is shitty. Because it discourages openmindedness and self exploration.
