Transcript: Pictured is the 'Do it for her' meme with pictures of Capaldi rather than Maggie.

Underneath is written: 'This meme is lowkey annoying me when it's used for men. I just keep remembering what's under the pics. S!B: Please, I just want to let it go!'

I've never seen the Capaldi version. I completely agree, OP. The Simpsons "Do it for Her" was so sweet and touching. This just makes no sense and takes away from the original version, IMO.

Man toiling away at a job he hates for his daughter vs... actually, what does the meme even mean? Toil away at a job for Doctor Who?

Sorry, but it just doesn't compare at all with the Simpsons.

This is really stupid. I don't know why knowing that Homer originally did it for Maggie would make people using male characters for the meme annoying to you.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-27 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Because under the pics it says "don't forget you're here forever" and "him" doesn't fit into that sentence

...so what?

sadiesockmonkey: (The Simpsons)

This meme bothers me in general because I love the source material too much and it feels like a bastardization of that.

But I'll definitely agree with you that there's something even more annoying about it being used for men than when it's used for women.

Still think it's annoying across the board though.

I really thought that was going to be a fushigi yuugi meme.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-28 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
lmao

DON'T FORGET, YOU'RE HAIM FOREVER

(Anonymous) 2017-07-27 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it said "Dot for him" and was really confused.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-27 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
...because a man isn't allowed to be important to someone and be their driving reason for carrying on through a tough or unpleasant situation?

(Anonymous) 2017-07-27 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's because the original sign being covered is http://i2.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/facebook/000/509/312/a1e.png

HERE has the E covered to make it HER.

https://pics.onsizzle.com/dont-forget-youre-here-forever-do-t-for-her-perspective-1488109.png

You can't cover a letter on HERE to make it HIM.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-28 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Nice try.

The meme is specific to a female character and literally makes no sense if you change it to "him". There are a million other ways you can express the same sentiment, so it's not as if banning it from being used for men would render such feelings inexpressible via memes.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-28 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's more kind of a pedantic/Simpsons fan thing to me. The picture says "Don't forget, you're here forever" under the photos, so having it say "him" basically misses the point of the whole thing.

You anti-SJWs get just as triggered as SJWs themselves.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-28 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
This has nothing to do with misandry. The sign underneath in the original episode said "Don't forget, you're here forever", which Homer covered up with pictures of his daughter so it looked like it said "Do it for her" instead. When you change the word to him, the sign would have to say "Don't forget, you're him forever" which is bizarre and nonsensical.

Well, but wouldn't that fit?

Yeah, the meme pisses me off too. Maybe if they made a version where "IM" was written on a sticky note and placed over the "ER"?

(Anonymous) 2017-07-28 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
I feel this confession on a spiritual level.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-28 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm curious, do what for Peter Capaldi??

(Anonymous) 2017-07-28 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
I can think of a few things I'd do for him. Just sayin'.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-28 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Working my shitty job at the cat food factory is keeping Peter Capaldi alive somehow.

Fic prompt!

This is one of my favourite memes, I use it as motivation sometimes (like 'work hard and make ur fave proud' etc). And yeah, it's silly to change the her to him but... Eh whatever. at this point the meme has become divorced enough from the original context that it doesn't bother me.
