It never established how Sozin felt about same-sex relationships originally, so it could hardly be called a "retcon". Just annoying and unoriginal. Sure, let's make the Already Evil Bad Guy a rampaging homophobe, too, because almost no one else has ever lived in this world. :/

I've seen the "the ending sucks, they just shoehorned the lesbian couple so people couldn't criticize the show without being called homophobic" opinion dozens of times since the show ended. We've also had arguments with those idiots on here, at some length. I don't remember the name of the person involved, and I certainly wouldn't issue any personal remarks with regards to the quality of their analysis, but it was talked about in depth. It's not that we're surprised that people think this. It's just a very stupid thing to think.

But some of those people at least watched the show and complained that it felt forced. OP seems overly eager to assume a same-sex endgame is shoehorned crap.

I don't have an opinion either way because I got bored with the show shortly after season 1.

I watched it with my niece and she started crying so hard I thought she was going to pass out. She was so happy to see them together, because it meant she couldn't be that weird. She came out to me right then and there.

So... basically, I don't really care if you think it's shoehorned or if you don't like it, it's good that it was there and the young people that it's actually aimed at (as in, not the 20+ age group you almost certainly belong to) took important cues from it.

As much as I love the show and loved the pairing as fanon (not expecting canon confirmation), I think the show could have done this better. People say the clues were there all the time, but my argument is that we didn't have enough time to realize the clues and marinate in the possibilities. Once we got to the end, a lot happened really fast.

So in my opinion, the reason it seems so fast is because as an audience it happened so fast for us.

But as a bi lover of the pairing, I'm still satisfied with the ending.

Same, honestly. So many people gush about how beautiful and affecting the ending is, but I'm honestly baffled they got through the awful seasons leading up to it. I got through Season 1, watched the premiere of Season 2, and realized that was enough.

It probably should be noted that they continue exploring the relationship in the follow-up comics, and make it you know, very clearly a relationship. (With coming out to parents and stuff). Also there is another wlw in the cast, but this is discovered in the comics as well.

It seems like they might have wanted to have more of Korrasami, but weren't allowed on TV.

Troll or not. At first I too thought Korra and Asami were weakly set up. Well, at no point I thought it was bad pairing, so even when coming from virtually out of nowhere, I welcomed it with open arms. Second time I watched the final season, equipped with knowledge of how the season will end... I guess I think I picked some hints here and there? All I want to say, OP and everyone, do not let small stuff get into you. At this point I think people are too quick to scream "sjw influence! shun, shun!". And this is coming from someone who get's branded "anti-sjw" from time to time because what are nuances in discussion based on views and opinions.
