Kylo's such an angry manchild. There are a million other incesty ships that are far less problematic than Reylo.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-11 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Reylo isn't incest.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-11 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)

This. Also honestly fictional ships=/=real life attitudes. If my sister who thought some aspects of Edward Cullen were sweet could find herself a nice respectful husband and have a healthy relationship then I don't think that most of these people shipping Reylo are any threat to anyone.

It's true that fiction affects real life but that isn't a reason to go bitching at everyone who just exists and ships your NOTP

Ayrt

Thank you for addressing the "problematic" part of that mess.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-11 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It might be.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-11 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
With that logic, no one should ship anything in any ongoing canon ever, because at any moment the writers may reveal that characters who were previously thought to be unrelated are in fact related.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-11 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have a problem with people shipping incest.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-11 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Then what's the point in pointing out that they might eventually be revealed to be related?

(Anonymous) 2017-11-11 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Because it's true. Reylo might be incest. We don't know yet. It's a possibility.

not really because there's real canon-based speculation on her parentage that makes it a possibility. it wouldn't be random like, say, Finn and Poe turning out to be related

(Anonymous) 2017-11-12 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
You could make an argument that Finn and Poe are randomly related that's roughly as convincing as Rey Skywalker/Rey Solo arguments.

[personal profile] otakugal15 2017-11-12 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
...no. No you can't.

Rey's story follows her grandfather's and Luke's with small differences, she gets the heirloom Lightsaber, and Daisy has mentioned the similarities to ESB and TFA where it comes to the parentage thing. I.E. It's obvious.

Ayrt

Anyone who has been paying attention to the information that's come out since TFA (and isn't a conspiracy theorist) knows that Rey's not a Skywalker or a Solo.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-11 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll see.
otakugal15: (Default)

[personal profile] otakugal15 2017-11-12 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Then you haven't been paying attention. Because she's SO a Skywalker.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-12 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
I think it was debunked by Maz in TFA itself, but I'd be interested to hear what is left of the Rey Skywalker theory.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-12 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Wat? Maz confirmed her as a Skywalker. SHE was thr one to mention the significance of Luke's lightsaber and who it originated from and that it now belongs to her.

Ir. Grand dad, dad , now daughter. The fuck movie were YOU watching?

It's fucking obvious that Rey is the love child of Boba Fett, Wilrow Hood, and Chewbacca.

Yes it is. Between cousins.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-12 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
American norms are not universal norms. Cousin marriage is perfectly legal in many, many countries.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-13 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Cousin marriage is allowed in many countries and a number of American states.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-11 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"less problematic"

How can you possibly be so ignorant that you don't understand that the problematicness is the whole appeal?
astridv: (Default)

[personal profile] astridv 2017-11-12 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
I was about to say that. I don't ship it, but I can see the appeal. Sometimes the "problematicness" of a pairing is what makes it interesting. It's not rocket science.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-12 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT

Oh, believe me, I do. That's exactly why I want to point out there are many sibling/cousin ships besides Reylo that are less fucked-up.

Charlie and Danny Matheson from Revolution is one possible example.
