Seems pretty normal to me.

I don't want to criticize your taste or your choices, obviously.

But the one thing that confuses me a little is like... it's not like One Direction or whatever are super masc, are they?

But it's not like One Direction makes themselves 'pretty' and almost androgynous with make up and stuff like the guys in many k-pop bands do. =)

Not OP and not a big kpop fan but while I wouldn't call many boybands super masc but they definitely do the bro thing where they 200% like sexy girls, have to be cool and masculine, and think being cute is for children. There's a certain offputting macho insecurity about that

Kpop has a "no homo!" problem which is just as big as boy bands do, but they don't have an issue with men being cute or pretty or graceful, which is not linked to being "gay"

Echoiing what hamimi_fk said. The "pretty" factor in Kpop is huge. I was at a performance by Shinee that had Taemin (their main dancer) with long hair and a miniskirt over pants.
Also, in general, the image that they try to project for these bands is more romantic, I think, and sensitive. It's a fairly nonthreatening form of masculinity, imo.

Oh, agree. Well, I don't actually care for most pop music, but I LOVE the "beautiful boy" aesthetic. I love the androgyny. Soft faces without facial hair, slender rather than macho look, elegant and beautiful appearance. Why can't that look be more popular in the West?

I'm not into kpop, or much western pop either, but I completely agree with the secret and with this comment^ with regards to androgyny and the beautiful boys aesthetic. Yes please. I find it waaay more attractive than standard Western depictions of masculinity.

Sadly, very few other than Bowie--one of the Glamfathers of visual kei--and a handful of art-rockers have ever pulled off such a look successfully.

My first reaction to this was, "Oh hey, Jimin. Sup."

Second was, fuck yeah pretty boy aesthetic. I mean, even in J-Rock bands my favourite is almost ALWAYS the pretty guitarist (a la Yuki from Acid Black Cherry).

Any good examples of non-East Asians guys looking so beautifully androgynous? Musicians, idols, or otherwise. Feels like Korean and Japanese male idols have it down perfectly, but what about outside of that?

And no, I don't consider One Direction "androgynous". They have the teen boy look, but they really don't look beautifully feminine either.

Dude, right? I don't care about the music (i rarely listen to *any* music) or the apparent drama of it all, but all thos K-pop boys? Fucking lovely.

I'm not into K-Pop at all, not even for the pretty, but I can definitely see why they have such mass-appeal. The whole aesthetic is gorgeous tbh.

I wish I liked the music, because the aesthetic is definitely attractive to me too! But alas, the music doesn't do it for me.

I think they look amazing, but I don't have any interest in boy bands. So the music part just kills the attraction entirely.

Which reminds me, I should try and find some asian dramas to watch...
