Oh, anon. Word of god confirmed that Klance will NEVER happen. Also Shiro and Keith had lots of lovely scenes together and they care about the other so much. It's beautiful.

They've also started giving Lance a lot less screen time and have quite a few Lance/Allura scenes going. The former I'm not very fond of because as much as I find Lance annoying and like Keith, Voltron should be an ensemble piece and not the Keith show. The latter though? Perfect.

Keith was barely in season 4 at all though. To the point where some people are worried Matt is going to replace him (which is definitely not going to happen, but that's an indication of how little he was around)

Yeah, Keith really doesn't get as much screentime as people say he does. The thing is, all of his storylines are heavily tied to the main plot, and he's part-alien with a mysterious past and the Black Lion's new pilot (I mean, he's not part of the team right now, but it's obvious he'll come back and pilot Black again like he did in the original Voltron series). That's probably what makes people see VLD as The Keith Show.

Shiro and Sheith were the only things I enjoyed about the Voltron fandom.

Tbh I got into the show because the absolute shitstorm of wank from s1 hit my dash despite me being nowhere near the fandom, so I got curious and checked the show out.

I've never ventured into the fandom myself though so I have no idea if it's still bad or if it's more contained. That and while I liked a few ships for it nothing pulls at me hard enough to want to bother with that fandom.

I feel like Keith and Shiro could be canon endgame. There's certainly nothing disproving or shaming it!

God, people like you make V:LD such a shit show that it put me off the fandom entirely.

Now I'm just here for the show and a little bit of Lancelot.

I thought OP had participated in the shipping wank, at least in the first season? Or did I misread the secrets?

I thought "got into it" meant they just rubbernecked and observed the wank rather than participated in it, but maybe I'm the one who read it wrong.

That's why I don't interact with the fandom since the beginning, dear anon. Went to take a look at the start and it's literally ATLA all over again, but with even less shipping implications the fandom basically just shipped Red/Blue stereotypes.

Hell, I do admit I have a bias to Lance but Lance himself is not the problem here. I just shipped Lancelot out of sheer spite.

Seriously. Every jackass VLD shipper I've ever come across is a Lance fan. They're responsible for how much I can't stand Lance on the show now because he just represents shippers gone wrong.

The producers said in a video interview that they never intended to bait anyone into thinking Klance was going to be canon, and that they won't make it canon or tease it just because it's the most popular ship, so I don't think you have to worry about that. Honestly, Keith and Lance don't even interact as much as fandom might make you think they do. I think Lance said like one sentence to Keith in season 4 and that was it.

As for Sheith, the creators haven't said anything negative about it or the shippers, and some of them have liked Sheith fan content in the past, so I doubt they have a problem with the ship or think it's "pedophilic". Keith was also said to be 18 in the guide book, which would make him and Shiro (and Coran) the only confirmed legal adults among the main cast. I guess Allura could be an adult too, but we only know that she's a teenager and the creators never specified how Alteans age or when they're considered adults.

That being said, their relationship is presented as platonic and brotherly so far, both in the show and by the creators. If this was a different kind of show, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Sheith ended up being canon, because some of their scenes have pretty strong romantic vibes (especially the "As many times as it takes" scene in season 3) and wouldn't feel out of place in a romance series. But it's a Y7 cartoon about a giant robot whose main goal is to sell toys, so I think the best we can hope for is that they won't get paired up with other characters and Shiro won't get killed off. And maybe a sweet ending where it's implied that they're still each other's most important person.

Season two gave us Keith straight up telling Shiro, and this is a quote 'you're like a brother to me'.

The writers have also made it pretty clear Klance isn't going anywhere in canon as well.

If you're only here for the shipping, Voltron won't be the show for you.

To be fair, the 'you're like a brother to me' in context is Keith hallucinating the most important things to him , and of course Shiro's love and approval is the single most important thing to Keith, and it's Keith essentially turning down 'Shiro''s attempts to use his feelings to get him to give up because finishing what he set out to do is so important to him.

So while it's not likely to be canon, the whole scene was designed to pretty much be pure ship-fuel. (Which is probably why antis like to scream that it makes the ship incest)

not going to get into a shipping argument because shipping should be something everyone can enjoy freely but the average person/viewer reads calling someone a brother as thinking of them as a brother. I don't ship anything on the show but in no world does 'like a brother' mean 'deeply romantic' unless you're ancient Egyptian royalty. The wording was very clear and the writers chose that word specifically over other, vaguer ones. People should be able to ship what they want, and color their viewing of things however they like to get to that point, but 'brother' means 'sibling' to most people watching the show and most people watching the show don't have romantic feelings for siblings.

Not that anon, but I've had several ships in the past where one character said the other was like their brother or sister, and then the ship eneded up being canon when the character realized their feelings were deeper than that or admitted that they were lying because they didn't want to accept their feelings. Not saying Sheith will be canon, but it's a pretty common trope. IMO the problem here is that it's a gay ship, not the "like a brother" line itself. If it was het I honestly wouldn't think something like that was an issue.

For a show with such a ridiculous amount of shipping wank, there's actually very little ship fuel in the show itself. People lose their shit over the tiniest, most insignificant interactions. As of season 4 there's no real evidence of any pairing becoming canon.

Fandom latching onto media as a blank slate on which to project their kinks? What will they think of next?

I sort of feel the same way about how the Asian steampunk aspects of Avatar:TLA and LOK get buried under shipping wank.

yeah i ended up watching it because of how much people squeed over their ships, 4 seasons in and i still ship nothing. it's so barren on that front i legitimately boggle at how it got such a rabid shipper-base.

it's the worst case of 'these two characters stood next to each other so they're in love' i've ever seen.
