Thank you for putting that the fight still has to go to the courts, the amount of people immediately going "This is the last day of the internet!!" is too high; That's not how it works. There's still a fighting chance.

DA

NY and WA AGs are already suing.

The courts aren't going to do fucking jackshit. It's over; back to the stone age for us. Only possible way to fix it would be to nuke Washington from orbit. Or maybe the US as a whole.

It's a decision by a regulatory agency, not an amendment to the constitution

Even if it were a constitutional amendment, it could be repealed/amended again, like prohibition.

Yes, of course - having to spend less time on the internet is totally worth blowing up an entire state/country full of innocent people. I'd prefer net neutrality too, but I think living with worse internet service IS a survivable thing. Loads of people in the world do do it.... and have done, historically. Honestly, the amount people are glued to the internet these days is completely insane. Yes, it's useful and fun. But it's not as if all knowledge and communication will cease to exist without it.

I don't think it's the last day of the Internet, but expect some ugly deals going on where Netflix is concerned, and I'm a slight bit worried about fannish sites like AO3 if Time-Warner decides they're the legal equivalent of Napster and chooses to kill them through throttling.

This is definitely bad for Netflix, but I think Netflix is completely fucked over the mid-to-long term regardless.

Like, net neutrality is probably not even the worst news for Netflix today. The Disney/Fox merger is probably a bigger deal IMO.

Hey if it means my neighbors have to pay more for hogging all of the internet bandwidth by streaming Netflix 24/7 then I am okay with this.

I think places to post fanfic on will always have a way of enduring. Even if we have to go back to zines or mailing lists or just posting them in places not specifically designed for fic - like how, for some god unknown reason, people used to use quizilla back in the mid 00's. People are resourceful.
