I like Dany less than I used to, but I'm still downright outraged at the idea that she'll only get her throne back by sharing it with a man. Not that she's my favorite horse in this race to begin with, since like many other contenders she seems to care more about the concept of ruling than about what the actual people of Westeros want (which I'm pretty sure at this point is "just stop marching armies across our fields please"), but if she was going to sit on the Iron Throne, I wanted her to be doing so without having to share with her Secret Nephew (and if the Targaryen rule is coming back, could we maybe nix the incest this time around? Maybe?).

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Congrats on being outraged by all the right things.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Well, look at this way she could die. I happen to be a big Dany fan but I can't work up the same rage as you have about Dany sharing with Jon even though I think he's as interesting as unbuttered toast. However, what would really grind my gears is if she dies and Jon rules without her. That would ruin the whole show for me.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'm still wondering how she's going to break the wheel.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not a fan of GoT at all. But you can't really cement a rule long-term without popping out a few heirs, so you'd think heterosexual marriage to someone politically sensible would be a reasonable requirement. Might as well be someone who would make a good political business partner of sorts. Then again, since this is Game of Thrones, I suppose sex harem dungeons or something similar are also a possible alternative for monarch marriage.

Isn't Dany infertile, though?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen a theory that because Viserion died, she can have kids again. Viserion was part of a trade off for the death of her biological baby, Rheago. I don't know if I buy that but maybe? Also maybe because her relationship with Jon is all destined and shit, they'll have babies?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 04:46 am (UTC)(link)

DA I hate that her destiny is apparently baby factory. She's freed slaves, ridden dragons and led armies. All this pales beside her womanly duty of popping out babies.

Society's attitudes haven't come far since the Tudors, apparently.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it pales at all. Her having babies was sort of hinted at this season as being a necessity to further her family line and have a successor, as it would be if she were a man.

It really all depends on how they play Daenerys getting pregnant if it happens. If they treat her having Jon's babies as the greatest thing her character has ever done, then that's shitty but if it's more "now the Targaryen line can continue and there will be a heir to the Iron Throne," then that's logical.

It's possible, but the books seem to imply that she's not as infertile as Mirri Maz Dur thought - the "prophecy" listing all the impossible things that have to happen before Drogo returns to her, including her having a kid, includes a lot of stuff that can be interpreted as referring to events in the books. So it's possible that she'll end up being able to have a child, as well, to fit with those too. (Whether Drogo will actually come back, or what form he'll be in if he does, is a different question.)

I could liked the idea of Jon being a Targaryen, but not a legitimate one. Then he could have married someone and had kids and Dany could have made them her heirs but could have ruled on her own.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
See, that makes way more sense to me.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
How the show legitimized Jon is one of the stupidest plots I've seen on any TV in quite some time. Why did he even need to be legitimized? Whatever.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
I like your idea a LOT better.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
And here I am, still shipping her with Jorah.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
And so am I. *waves Dany/Jorah flag* Honestly, they've got a lot more chemistry than Dany/Jon, and Jorah would be content for Dany to be a monarch.

I'm all aboard the Dany/Tyrion train. It's a lonely train.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
There are at least two of us on board!

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm "meh" on their relationship personally. Daenerys is my top 3 of favorite characters of the series but I think Jon is boring and have trouble at times understanding why so many people fall over themselves acting like he's one of the best characters ever conceived. That being said they do have quite a lot in common in terms of their broader philosophical goals, they've taken shit in their lives and had to rise up to become powerful, they've lost people they love, etc. So I can see how they can work as a couple, but I think the show's writing let them down. But that was the case with much this season where it could have worked much better given a little more time and finesse.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
This season's quite clunky. It looks as though people are just being moved round so they're in the right places for S8 but unfortunately it also looks as if Dany/Dull McDullface are going to be endgame.

Can't see why he's being set up as so principled either. He doesn't lie, he won't bend the knee. Neither does he the Lannisters that the Dead can be killed with dragon-glass and that could be vital information for the survival of Westeros.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
That's why he's so principled, because he doesn't lie. He's like Ned expect where Ned's belief that Westeros's Honor Culture actually means anything got him killed, Jon succeeds because plot. Jon died too for the same reason as Ned but got to come back to life. Side note: that's also why I have a very hard time seeing him a Targaryen. Jon is pure, not from concentrate Stark. I really hope they don't try and bullshit us by listing some Targaryen traits that Jon supposedly has.

I laughed at "Dull McDullface." I think they'll be end game, too as long as neither dies. I'll be really pissed if Daenerys dies and Jon sits on the Iron Throne at the end. I'm not a feminist but I agree the trope in fiction where a guy takes the lead role in the story where it should have been the woman's because her background and abilities make her more suitable to be the hero than the guy but she gets sidelined to be his love interest needs to not exist anymore. Not that it ever did but still.

Maybe GRRM thinks nurture beats nature? He may be a Targaryen by blood, but Ned Stark raised him.

Early on when the book series was underway but the show hadn't reached that point yet, lots of people speculated they'd be the end game. I could see where it SORT OF made sense but still hoped it wouldn't happen because it just seemed too... I don't know... tidy. I didn't want an ending that could be predicted from such a long way off and neither Jon nor Dany are particularly interesting to me.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
They work fine on paper but the execution was terrible and the actors have zero chemistry. Maybe it'll work in the books, but on the show? Not so much. Jon has better chemistry with Sansa and Dany has better chemistry with both Jorah & Tyrion. Those relationships also have much better build-up and development.
