I don't think I count as a dudebro - I don't think any comic fan can rally count as a dudebro - but let me tell you something, I read that shit. I PAID for that shit - Apparently one of, like, 50 people who did. I don't care what they do to reassure me, I do not want that shit creeping anywhere near anything I love.

So you were the one that submitted this secret.

Nope.

"I don't think I count as a dudebro"

Uh...

Maybe just leave it at this:

"I don't think"

"dudebro" is a phrase that means dramatically different things to different people

Right? Dudebros watch sports, and talk about how many sluts they banged, call eachother dude and bro and mock comic and table top game fans, as far as I'm concerned. if it's just "An undesirable male" then it's a bit of a useless term.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-25 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so their hobbies are different, and they prefer to discuss "banging sluts" over the hypothetical repercussions of forced boobjobs.

So you're not a dudebro, you're just an undesirable male.

Thats what I've been saying!

DA

It's like they don't even listen!

Maybe if it were in the comics but the movie was pretty clear on why it had to go.

"Are you the god of hammers?"

That was good bit. Anthony Hopkins always does excellent delivery.

I don’t know what you’re talking about but Natalie threw a bitch fit and left the franchise so Jane was never going to be Thor.

What happened with that, is there any information on what caused it?

No concrete info last I checked (which was months before the movie came out), but Patty Jenkins, who Portman pushed to be director of Thor 2, left due to creative differences two months in. It's possible that this was a reason Natalie decided to leave since Jenkin's idea was to give Jane a bigger role in the film. I think Natalie was dissatisfied with her role in the films as a damsel in distress and maybe felt that wasn't going to change. That being said Jenkins directed Wonder Woman so maybe Portman had a point?

Personally I'm glad she left because I think that allowed them to free Thor from Earth and go to other planets. Although Portman did say she was open to doing more MCU films in the future so if they wanted to do female Thor she could decide to do it, but I'm not sure how good of an action hero Portman would be.

I'm mostly glad she left because as much as Portman is a solid character actress, she is incredibly bad at acting romantic relationships. (I also thought it seemed like she was feeling like superhero movies are beneath her/not serious enough to give her best performance.)

I think there is some truth to that since she decided to quit around the time she won the Oscar for Black Swan. Although at the same time around that time she was talking about retiring in general. In the end she just went on hiatus, but maybe she was just tired of acting at the time.

I'm only skeptical because any time an actor or actress chooses not to come back the rumor mill says it must be because they hate superhero films. The same happened with Hugo Weaving who has come out and said that he enjoyed playing the Red Skull outright, yet still people think that he hated the role.

And nothing of value was lot. Nothing against Natalie but Jane was a terrible character.

+1

All the human characters were a huge drag on the Thor movies tbh.

Dude, however screwy the Jason Aaron Thor run has been, Thor: Ragnarok is a bigger sledgehammer to the concept.

Bro, I am so here for a Thor movie that retcons Ragnarok as a bad dream, and brings back the Warriors Three as sidekicks to Jane.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-25 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ragnarok was better than Aaron's run for the simple fact that it didn't reduce Thor to a depressed, alcoholic wreck who is constantly outshined by somebody who just picked up a hammer.

And didn't make Volstagg a grimdark berserker before killing him off. Or turn Odin into a mysognistic strawman. Or hit the readers over the head with the message "gods are stupid and bad" from the authors atheist soapbox.

I think it's a bit of a stretch, because there's almost a half-century of fuckery over 50 years of comics that isn't going to be touched by MCU.

Mostly I think it's part of the holy trinity of superhero drama:

1. powers
2. family
3. teammates/sidekicks

It's the same formula since Luthor first kidnapped Lois Lane and gave Superman a kryptonite necklace. Heck, even Logan used the formula.
