Current fashion/makeup trends

Things you love, or things you hate?

I like the red/burgundy eyeliner/eyeshadow trend. I look sick or abused, but I think it's because I'm not going 100% with it. Thus look is old anyhow, and the trend is probably over, but I still like it.

I don't know what else is going on, but the over done over penciled brows tire me. I like thick brows, but if it doesn't look natural, then you need to step your game up, change it, or accept your face as is, wasn't nothing wrong with it to start.

Yes, not into the overly-drawn-on looking brows. Thick, dark eyebrows are fine, it's the thing where people make them look like they were drawn on in thick Sharpie that bugs me.

Back in the early 2000s, I wasn't a fan of the overly-plucked eyebrows that looked drawn on in pencil, so mostly I just prefer natural looking eyebrows.

I love the Urban Decay naked eyeshadow palettes. I hate heavy foundation/contouring that's in right now. I have yet to see anyone wear that much makeup and not have it looked trowelled on.

Yes. I hate contouring too. There really isn't anything wrong with people's natural skin and facial structure and it seems like the current makeup trends are making people look further and further away from that.

ugh, when somebody's face is a different color than their neck!

Ugh, contouring. IMO it just reinforces the message that you can't be pretty unless you have high cheekbones, slender face, a well defined jaw and a small, narrow nose and if you don't have those features, you should fix it with what is practically special effects make up.

I think contouring is great for photography and completely unusable for your daily life. It never looks good or natural, no matter how well you think you blended it.

Been seeing lots of frumpy, androgynous looking clothes lately. Digging it.

Do not love the ankle freezing pants trend. I have weird knobbly ankles and I hate shaving my legs. Look away, people.

Do not love the ankle freezing pants trend.

Oh man, when the whole cropped pant trend eases off I am going to be so. fucking. happy.

I have long legs, so cropped pants are always a couple inches TOO cropped for me, plus I'm ALWAYS cold and I cannot fathom how so many people are perfectly happy to spend an entire day with bare ankles.

Cropped pants should all burn.

Might not want to watch the next season of Doctor Who then...

I hate those damn high water pants too

I like cropped pants BUT it's because I'm so short ankle cropped pants are the only ones that fit me without having to hem them.

High five, my fellow height challenged friend! I have a bunch of ankle jeans that hit juuuust above the floor on my 5' self, and it is fantastic.

Same, nonny! I really like not having to hem my pants.

Yeah, 4’11” here and it’s nice not having to hem everything.

I love bold, feathery brows. It's definitely possible to do them too harsh, but if done well they look incredible. I also love highlighting.

I love skinny jeans and I love ripped jeans (but not ALL ripped jeans). I hate cropped pants and high-waisted pants.

I love cropped shirts, but only because I'm so short-waisted that on me cropped shirts just fit like normal shirts.

I love loafers, and boyfriend watches, and black and white plaid blazers, and those Gucci Marmont belts that are EVERYWHERE on instagram.

I'm the opposite of you with short- and high-waisted pants and cropped shirts, because I have a freakishly long torso.

Hate hate HATE boxy shirts. I hate finding something that looks like it's going to be gorgeous - right neckline, good cloth, good pattern/color - and I pull it out and the dang shirt's a square.

Admittedly, this entirely due to my body type, which is not loose-clothing-friendly. I like wearing clothes that make me look taller, not shorter, thank you.

Heh, we have the opposite body type. I'm tall, slim, but very boxy. Not much waist to speak of. I spent years trying to create a waist by wearing tight clothing, before realizing I looked way better in boxy shirts that work with my natural body type.

I'm with you on this. My favourite shirts are the ones that fit close at the top half and are loose/swishy around the waist (there's probably a name for them, idk) just because I'm super self-conscious about my waistline. But boxy all over, no no.

I was talking to my dad's friend the other day (who grew up in the 60's/70's) and we were talking about how, I dunno... dull most clothing is this these days, at least where we live. Not the high-end fashion stuff, but just what people wear day-to-day. There's no colour, no pizazz, it's all pastel and neutral and rose gold accessories right now and I just find it so boring.

Re: Current fashion/makeup trends

(Anonymous) 2018-01-25 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well... sure. Because most of my every day fashion needs involve me being professionally dressed for work, which is more about looking suitable while being relatively comfortable and not about fashion or individuality. Kudos to the people who can dress like a professional AND still be unique and fashionable, but we can't all pull that off.

This thread made me realize I have no idea what's in right now.

Me too. I still dress like how I did in high school, just use less eyeliner.
