Probably too much information, but I kinda need to vent now that I think about it now

I have never ever wanted kids. There was a very dark time right after my brother died several years ago that my mom tried to guilt trip me into getting pregnant, because despite knowing I never wanted kids she thought being a grandma would make HER happy again. I don't know that my dad said to her after I complained to him, but one day she just never spoke about it again. It was one of the things that made our relationship very strained for years. It also guarantied I will do whatever it takes not to have a child.

How the tropes are used as part of the greater story and work as whole matter much more than their use. Like a story can have a cold aloof female character who gets friendlier later on and that's not inherently lazy because that's the DEFROSTING ICE QUEEN trope1!1!! Ideas being original doesn't make them good necessarily.

I used to, but it never happened and that's probably for the better. And now the time has passed.

Reclaiming kink meme fills

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm revisiting an old kink meme and realising there's work I wrote anonymously years ago there, that I'd actually really like to claim and put under my current pseud. Is that a weird thing to do? I guess I'm paranoid people will think I'm just picking random fics and claiming credit for them, but they're definitely mine.

Do you ever repost anonymous fills un-anon? Why or why not?

I want kids, but I’m shy, socially awkward, a 34 year old virgin, and ugly, so I’d probably have to go the drunk one night stand sans condom route to get pregnant. My periods have always been irregular and I might be infertile, anyway.

While I could probably raise a kid solo if I absolutely had to, I don’t think it would be fair to them. I don’t have many friends, hardly any family—and they’re all my parents’ generation and childless—so if something happened to me any kids I had might end up in foster care.

I have codependency issues where I’m willing to do stuff for others that I can’t be assed to do for myself, so I’m sure my hypothetical kids would be fed and clothed and educated and spoiled, but I’d hate to pass on any of the more fucked-up aspects of my childhood to a new generation. But if I don’t have kids, I can’t be an aunt or anything; I’m an only child with no siblings or cousins.

I steer way clear of people who vocally hate on het.

Want kids, don't want to get married. Wish single parenting had more support and less stigma.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you watch many long-running TV series?

TBH this is why I don't read much fic anymore.

"We now proactively seek out social media sites like YouTube, for example, and look for incidents of very toxic behavior and track down the accounts that are participating in those and action them, often times before anybody’s even reported them or they’ve shown up in any other place. That’s just one example of us being proactive that I think is going to make a big difference over time."

Fuuuuuuuck. I'm not convinced my personality is sufficiently non-toxic by everyones measure.

Did they express that TV shows are the sole (or even main) reason why they feel pressured to have kids?

Re: From secret #1

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. Sometimes I just want to spend the whole weekend watching TV and lazing around in bed. No way to do that with a two year old. At the moment I can't see some sort of mother instinct superseding those kind of selfish and lazy urges.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you mean?

Re: Reclaiming kink meme fills

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's weird. If I saw a fic like that posted, I'd assume the writer was being honest about it being their work.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt but I can think of plenty of mainstream shows with women choosing not to have kids. Sex and the City comes to mind - two of them chose to have kids, the other two didn't. The oldest one (sorry forgetting names) was very active in her opinion about never wanting kids. I believe the main woman (shit I'm drunk, can't even remember her name) went back and forth on it, and in the end, was with a partner who didn't want any and decided she didn't want any, too.

OP
There is SO MUCH slash potential in this show. (And a bit of femmeslash potential later on)

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
My point was that they're MORE a sign of laziness THAN some super evil form of mass socialization.

Re: Reclaiming kink meme fills

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I did. I think it's totally legit if you want to own up to your work. I guess there's always the potential that someone could accuse you of stealing it, but if you post other things and it's pretty similar to your writing style, oh well. Especially since it's an old kink meme, I doubt anyone would make a fuss.

Re: Reclaiming kink meme fills

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really. I doubt many people would be that invested in posting old post fills instead of say more popular and newer fic and it should match your writing style as you wrote it.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

I mean, that's the case with a lot of offensive things. Doesn't mean they can't still be hurtful.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Youtube comments are super vile and on one hand, I have to lol a little at someone facing consequences for posting really gross racist/sexist shit. But ... how do they know? Is it a matter of Youtube accounts being tied to e-mail addresses?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No, they said it "just feels like it's adding to the pressure." Which is what I was addressing.

Error message?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
What does it mean when I went to go to "current submission post" and it says

And hurt people will whine, yes. That's life.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt but OP comes across as resenting characters who want to have kids if they didn't previously indicate they wanted to have kids. I can get that this is a thing OP is sensitive about, but it does seem like pushing her own personal feelings on the issue onto characters.
