HI BAILEY! Tell your mom she's cool.

I wonder if it's just unconscious for directors and stuff to make the lead a male. Like, before it was because of sexism, but now it's just habit? Haha, that's what I think it probably is.

I kind of want to marry your icon a lot.

OP of 114

(Anonymous) 2008-07-07 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not so much that I want them to lose their significance (can they lose what they don't have?) as I want them to cease to be. That's several hours of my life (not counting the hours at the movies my friends dragged me to) that I will never get back, and I hate that I wasted those hours on such tripe.

117. Carnivale is on my Netflix queue after BSG. I CAN'T WAIT.

\o/ It's on my Top 5 List of best tv-shows ever. Look forward to it!

Re: 129

(Anonymous) 2008-07-07 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's just all random. I'm working on an original novel, most all of the leads are guys. That's just how it turned out. *shrug*

It's just however the script writer images it....and that's just how it ends up.

102. ...what? What the fuck ending did you play?

162. There's nothing wrong with Belts and Zippers in and of themselves. It's when Nomura goes nuts and piles them on that they start to look ridiculous. Even that wouldn't be so bad if he didn't do it for every character ever. The end result is that his characters sort of start to look generic after a while.

Also you don't need to be able to suggest an alternative to know when shitsux. Just saying.

169. That's good! I'm glad you're able to do that, and that Naruto helps you with it. I'm not a fan of him, myself, but I will admit that he has his moments.

Thing is, though, just about every shonen protagonist ever does the exact same stuff, only better than him.

EXACTLY

EXACTLY

I've seen it once a year for the last like twelve years and it STILL makes me cry every time. I seriously think that when I go off to college I'll have to come back home during break just to watch that movie with my family.

I think fandom agrees that Donna is awesome, so you shouldn't be afraid.

129) I see what you mean, and I hadn't noticed it either. I'm kind of ashamed... might not see Wall-E now...

132) There are so many movies out there that make people wary of strangers, it's no wonder anyone ever talks to anyone anymore. I'm mad at movies for doing that.

160) I remember it and it's my favorite animation short ever. The line was definitely too good for the circle and he should have found another flexible line to have fun with.

I wouldn't exactly say that, but I will say that the show is one of my all-time favorite TV-shows ever! Seriously, why hasn't more people seen it?

Re: 114

(Anonymous) 2008-07-07 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
OP here.

I dislike all the books. I find them to be pieces of badly written tripe whose only redeeming factor lies in the fact that they got children to read (which is a small redeeming factor, really, considering there are so much better series they could read instead.). I think the time I spent reading them in the first place was time absolutely wasted, and I mentally kick myself for it every time I see a copy of one of the books lying around.

The books from your icon, however, are lovely.

Re: 129

[identity profile] coloa.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
For the sake of argument:

You're writing one original novel. Pixar has made a lot of movies. None of which have had female leads. 0/1 is kind of different from like 0/14832497239. oAo

But yeah I see your point. When I count up my OCs and such, most of the main characters are male.

Re: 162

[identity profile] typhlogirl.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It is? Whoops; the FFXII example in the secret confused me. And no, the FXII are hardly shining examples of practicality.

Different anon.

(Anonymous) 2008-07-07 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably. I know in my major original novel (and my smaller fiction stories), they usually have the females as the lead and the males are love interests.

Though... of course, it's different when I write slash/yaoi/wtfever the word for original yaoi.

122 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-07-07 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a number of reasons. To be more correct, she's the one I like the least.
Though to be honest, I got pretty peeved by Yukari's conceited attitude recently.

Re: 129

[identity profile] biocaam.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
How often is it that girls can relate to a male lead beyond basic emotions?

155

[identity profile] kiokushitakaa.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)

He is my hero. And I'm not afraid to say so. God, I love Pete Wentz. He's everything I wish I could be, and yet, he's still so resoundingly human.

Re: 129

[identity profile] annwyd.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
IAWTC so hard. The fact that women are thought of and treated as extensions of/relations to men rather than as people in their own right, and the "default human" is considered to be male, is basically the essence of sexism. Everything else stems from that.
