I like curling (I've been thinking that I might like to try curling myself, it looks like fun and there are a few clubs in my area), and halfpipe.

I can't handle the tension worrying over whether they will fall down, and winter sports are like 90% about not falling down. Figure skaters? They might fall down! Snowboarders? They might fall down! AAAAHHHH!

I'm watching some of the highlights in the evening as the time difference means it tricky to watch live, so I've been catching the figure skating and some of the skiing events, oh and also the luge? The one where all the adrenaline junkies throw themselves down a hill on a dinner tray.

Figure skating and snowboarding, mostly. The US has been doing really well at snowboarding (3 gold medals, so far). I am a little annoyed at the sound for the ice skating - I don't know where they put the microphone, but hearing the blades on the ice so loudly can be a little grating. And the interviewer that speaks to them off the ice is irritating me, the questions she asks seem designed to put words in the athletes mouths and are sometimes kind of insulting:
-That was a poor performance for you, wasn't it? How will you try to improve on it?
-Actually, we thought it was a good performance, but were disappointed by the scoring.

And one of the snowboarding announcers said the most ridiculous thing about Shaun White - that he's here to show that his two, back-to-back, Olympic gold medals weren't just a fluke. Yes, he wants a gold after a disappointing 4th in Sochi, but a fluke?

Yes to figure skating!!! I'm not super interested in anything else but won't change the channel if it's curling, just because curling is so baffling and fascinating.

Not watching. I just can't muster up interest for it, even though I usually do tend to favor the Winter Olympics over the Summer.

Yes. My family are huge winter sports fans. Mostly biathlon, sky jumping, figure skating, curling and skiing.

So far I've loved the result of the men's sprint (biathlon) the most. Everyone expected Fourcade and JT Boe to dominate the competitions and then they miss 3 times on the first shooting. Fourcade's comeback was amazing though, the guy is a monster. But I love that the podium was made up completely of surprises (and what an amazing an well-earned win for Peiffer).

On my days off I've been living in hoodies/sweatshirts/tees with yoga pants and flip-flops or T-strap sandals (I live on the California coast so it's not terribly cold where I am), a pair of hoop earrings and a few simple sterling rings. When it warms up I'll switch to lighter peasant tops and cut-offs.

Skinny jeans and dress casual tops. I'm a big fan of scarves and have a huge collection of kinds of colours and designs, including some obvious and not-so-obvious fandom scarves. I wear a lot of skirts in the spring and live in dresses in the summer. Most of my tops are appropriate for all year round and I layer a lot in the winter. My wardrobe isn't nearly so big as it probably sounds, I just have a solid mix of things that coordinate well with each other no matter the weather.

My "uniform": V-neck long-sleeve T-shirt in a limited palette, dark-wash boot-cut jeans, brown calf boots, pair of earrings.

It gets more varied in summer when I can wear dresses.

When did Sony movies become so hated?

Sony movies have a terrible rap, to the point that if there is a trailer for a Sony movie (especially if it's animated) it is generally assumed by the internet to be a bad film even before it is released.

They have also made some weird creative decisions, which may have something to do with it - I still don't know who thought the Emoji Movie was a good idea, and I have no idea who they're appealing to with the planned Spider-Man spinoffs.

But plenty of movie studios put out bad movies and box-office bombs, so I guess I'm not sure why Sony is being singled out for mockery here and wonder when it started.

Movie Club Remainder!

TW: horse death

Today, I said goodbye to my horse, Sharif. He was diagnosed with amyloidosis late this past summer, and was put on a month-long course of antibiotics that seemed to help for a while, but this winter he relapsed, hard. We put him back on the antibiotics early in January, but despite our best efforts, he was getting worse, not better. Last week, I set up an appointment for the vet to come look over him today and see if there was anything else that could be done, but there wasn't, and so I watched my best friend of almost 20 years die. He went peacefully, at least. Guess that's all anyone can ask, really. And at least he's not hurting anymore. That's the main thing.

I knew this was coming, I've known for a few days, but I still don't know what I'm going to do without him. He's the best friend I've ever had, and I couldn't have asked for a better horse. He was better than I ever deserved. I wish I could've done more for him.
