The worst untagged experience I had was when I read a fic tagged "character death," which was fine, but it did NOT tag for necrophilia with said dead character!!!

I've never had a fourth wall break, but I've read fics where someone like Captain America is explaining it to someone. I usually backbutton out of those.

Surprise necrophilia was one of the worst things I found as well. Also surprise cannibalism.
And though I really hate it, I'm not even shocked by surprise mpreg/intersex/trans stuff anymore because its so damn common in a lot of the fandoms I'm in. It's become more of a general nuisance that leads me to block authors than anything else.

The worst was when a Charles/Erik fic ended with Erik running back to Magda his WIFE who was not mentioned at all in the fic. She wasn't even tagged in the fic.

The weirdest thing I definitely did not expect in a fic I read was when it took a sudden turn to Christian preaching.

One character pulls out a knife during sex and cuts the other. I think "this is weird and I'm not into it, but hopefully it will be over soon". It was not. Knife wielding character continues to cut the other one up until finally stabbing him to death, cutting off parts of his flesh and eating them, continuing to have sex with the body, then sawing off part of a bone which he makes into a necklace.

I...was not prepared for that.

I read a non-con hurt/comfort fic where a character kidnapped one half of the couple, kept him tied up in his bedroom and raped him repeatedly. That was warned for. What the author didn't tell anyone was that a significant part of this fic (one forth of it, at least) focused on the rapist's father, who not only knew what his son was doing, approved of this, helped his son get away with this, and was constantly gushing to another bad guy (who was aiding them for his own reasons, though he didn't really approve of the rape) about "what beautiful noises" his son made while raping his victim, along with a lot of implied masturbation to this on the father's part. Yeah.

Funniest was probably the surprise mpreg. I don't like mpreg and there weren't any hints that it was gonna happen, but it involved laying eggs in a vending machine and it was the most random shit ever that I couldn't help but laugh.

Worst was the noncon that ended in gory mutilation and eventual death. I knew I was in for a dark read, but it wasn't even tagged for violence or major character death. Bizzarely, one of the tags was fluff, but I noped the hell out of that fic after the death scene and I have no idea if the fluff ever came into play.

Someone I was beta-ing for forgot to mention the tortured cat when she sent me a bit to read.

It's not even graphic!

But I've been around cats since I was maybe three days out of my mother's womb, I've had to bury a few, I've had some die in my arms... a week later I'm still dealing with intrusive thoughts of what the body would feel like, wondering how much pain it was in dying, that someone might break into *my* house to kidnap my cats and torture them to death to hurt me...

So, yeah. Be kind to your betas, kids.

There's a Loki-centric story where he's kidnapped and raped into pregnancy before being rescued back to Asgard with the baby. Then he proceeds to graphically kill the baby. It was not warned for because the author said they 'didn't want to ruin the surprise' but when a warning was asked for, they told the person who was triggered that they should 'relax because it's just pretendy fun times'. So ugh. Never touched that author again.

A DBZ fic that had a very graphic and brutal rape scene in it that wasn't warned for at all. Just in the middle of a fic I was enjoying, surprise! Have a flashback of Vegeta getting brutally raped by Frieza.

Untagged character death and skullfucking, sheer morbid curiosity kept me reading that and I still question that choice. (It was for a super fucked-up ship though so it wasn't out of place for the pair, just... very unexpected, lol).

Incest. It was a Ranma 1/2 fic that was female Ranma with Akane and that sounded interesting, but her sisters were watching and... yeah. And in the end even the part I wanted to read wasn't very good.

It's kinda one of the funniest and I read it just recently: a fic where one character gets shoved into an oven and baked to death by the character who just fucked him. Untagged for character death but it's actually kind of hilarious for several reasons:

The author explaining that "you wouldn't have character deathtagged onto a book you check out of a library either so there" which is kind of a silly, conceited and back-patty comparison to make (she's also insisting in the comments that she isn't writing for the reader reactions which makes one wonder why she went through the trouble of not tagging it if it wasn't for the cheap shock value).
It's also so ridiculously OTT grimdark that it reminded me of those MLP grimdark stories a lot which isn't exactly a flattering comparison in my books.

The funniest happened in a Harry Potter fic where an OC lost her virginity to a guy who then immediately left her. Just as she tearfully tells this to either Hermione or Ginny, the author goes into a caps-locked rant addressed to the presumed teenaged reader about how this is why you shouldn't sleep with guys - all they want is your virginity and nothing else!

I laughed so hard I couldn't continue.
