Advice

I'm planning on moving soon. Living with family is too stressful. What are things I should keep in mind while apartment hunting?

First of all, moving sucks, so stay strong.

Second - for me, I think the most important things to check are the practical, logistical things. What kind of transportation access does the apartment have, where would you go grocery shopping. What kind of oven and stove are there (if you're going to be doing your own cooking). Does it have a laundry room or would you have to take your clothes to a laundromat and if so, where. How big is the shower/bath, how's the water pressure in the shower, how is the toilet, is there airflow in the bathroom so things can air out and dry. Just all of the little details of actually living in a place.

* Ask to see the unit you'll be renting if you can, not just a model unit.

* Look online for reviews, especially ones that address noise, crime, etc.

* Note public/communal areas and how well they're kept/clean, because that tells you how attentive the management is.

* Check/ask about decorating policy re: your unit. Ditto pet policy.

* Ask about noise levels, whether or not there are designated quiet times, etc.

Visit a complex you like at various times of the day/week, and nights/weekends. It'll give you an idea of what the community is like.

Look into their rules, what kind of things they allow. What their policies on roommates, pets, garbage, things included/not included in the bill. Decide if you can live by such things.

Check out apartment reviews websites, multiple ones if you can.

Someone may disagree, but when I tried hunting on my own I ended up in shithole. I'd say if there's a realtor/realty place to help you find an apartment (they should do it for free and get a kickback from the place itself when you sign) do it. I ended up in a way better place.
