Mrrrrfffffff.

First of all, I'm not sure why you think that a Louis CK comeback would involve sincere contrition and repentance on his part, and I'm definitely not sure why you think it would lead to any kind of serious soul-searching from people who like his comedy. I am very skeptical of either of those things happening. And I think it's also worth asking whether it's a fair trade to accept bad actors back into the fold for the sake of soul-searching by other people.

Second - with these ideas of contrition, forgiveness, repentance - I mean, forgiveness is fundamentally not owed to anyone, ever. It's not obligatory. And it's not clear to me what CK has done or really could do to earn the kind of forgiveness that you're asking for here. And I would definitely be really suspicious of any claims that he made to be contrite that were linked to his own comeback tour. Like, I would just have to doubt his sincerity and wonder whether he was actually sincere or whether he just wanted to be rich and popular again. Just making a public comment - I'm really not sure whether that would be enough, and I don't think that it's unfair to say that either. And I'm not sure that Louis CK needs to be our test case for allowing us to forgive him, and whether that forgiveness would need to be in the form of allowing him to be a rich celebrity again. And we also need to strongly consider what kind of message that sends about how seriously we take the misdeeds that he's guilty of.

I don't think that Louis CK has been wronged or treated unfairly. And I also think - in general - there are some things where forgiveness and re-entry into polite society really shouldn't be on the table.
