My roommate came out of Suicide Squad wanting a whole movie about The Joker, so I feel your pain, OP. (FWIW, I saw the movie with her and was mildly entertained. I just... why was that her favorite part? I think it would have been better if he hadn't been in the movie at all.)

I'm so glad I'm not one of those pathetic losers that can only stick to one brand. It feels good to love both DC and Marvel universes.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-10 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe the reason that people don't love the DC universe is less because they're brand zombies, and more because the DC movies are mostly bad

(Anonymous) 2018-05-10 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
DA but to be fair MCU films are hardly masterpieces themselves. MCU films just have the fortune to have been engineered to be hyperpalatable like a bacon cheeseburger or a plate of chili cheese fries, whereas the DC films are just kind of flaccid all around.

One of my office mates is a HUGE Superman fan, especially the new one. She has like 30 Superman things in their office (including a Superman coffee maker). I have a bit of Marvel stuff in my office (like 5 Funko pops I had doubles of and a Captain America artwork I got from Hobby Lobby). I really don't like DC (at least the newest stuff) but at least she is an fan of Marvel so we got something to talk about.

Ok for some reason I read that as "Spiderman" and wondered what on earth a Spierman coffee maker would look like besides amazing.

Oh no! Your co-worker likes something you don't. I bet they probably dislike something you enjoy too. It's called being different. There's no reason to insult what someone else likes just because you don't care for it.

Uh, they didn't say that at all? They said they're both fannish and so have something to talk about.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-10 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the impression I got from the secret, but okay.

What do you think they said? I thought that they said that they didn't want to tell their coworker that they were fannish, because then the coworker might mistakenly believe that they like the DC movies as well as the Marvel movies, and the coworker might expect them to go and see the DC movies together (and presumably discuss them together) which OP does not want.

Did you actually read the secret or are you trolling? OP said absolutely nothing about insulting their co worker.

I watch the DC movies. Mostly because I fucking love Batman. Also because I keep hoping THIS will be the DC movie that turns it all around & makes me love DC.

MCU at heart though. They're far more entertaining to me. Even the darker films are fluffy compared to DC & I just. . . the world is so grimdark right now in real life, I don't want my superheroes to be the same.

I get it.

All I can say is, Wonder Woman.

I hear you. I love the MCU but DC got me into comics in the first place. It hurts my soul that the DCEU is a load of rubbish. I'd love to have strong films from both but it always feels like when one is on the up, the other is down. Around the time of Batman Begins/The Dark Knight people forget it felt like everyone loved Batman but was sick of X-Men films (yes, I know...not MCU but still Marvel.) Then obviously Iron Man was a rather unexpected hit and the rest is history.

I mean, you don't have to just pick one. I'd like to be able to love the DC movies at least as much as I love MCU, so in a weird way I'm jealous of your coworker, but. Even Wonder Woman I'm in no hurry to see a second time.

Same. I liked Wonder Woman, but it's not a re-watch for me. It mostly looks good because the other DC movies were crap.
nightscale: Princess of my heart (DC: Wonder Woman)

Honestly as a fan of both DC and Marvel comics I'm mostly just sad that I don't like most of the DC movies because I really want to.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-11 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I started out Team Marvel and then Age of Ultron was such a massive let-down for me (in like...every possible way) that I was all ready for swing over to DC and getting excited about Suicide Squad because I /love/ both villains and ragtag teams, but then that movie was...that. Wonder Woman was a nice change of pace, just not enough to get me to watch BvS or Justice League after the massive SS letdown.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-11 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
You sound like a pretentious dick.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-11 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed. Only impossibly snooty people want to avoid seeing movies they don't like!

(Anonymous) 2018-05-11 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
This seems to be working on the assumption that MCU comprise of genuinely good movies... Guys, you're fighting over a douche and a turd sandwich.

I thought Wonder Woman was great, and I appreciate Nolan's Batman films...

I lost all respect for a co-worker when he went on a 15 minute not-quite-rant about how good Suicide Squad was when it came out.

I'm like motherfucker you no longer deserve that Neal Adams Batman mug anymore, give it to me.
