I don't know.

If I just get a comment that only says "More!", I mean, I guess I get that you liked it and want more, but without anything softening it, it seems kind of demanding.

It just has a different feel than "More, please" or "Yay! More!". Hell, if you only put a smiley face after it, that works.

But the first and second comments you have up don't really seem pissed off to me.

Yeah, I can definitely see this side of the argument. I don't think people who say that mean to sound demanding or abrupt, but in a text based medium it can come off that way. Then you consider that an author might be getting quite a few "More!" or "Sequel please!" comments and it kind of adds up over time.

Yes, like if someone shouts out for "More!" at a bar. They could totally be the person at a bar that throws back a drink, sets the glass down on the bar hard, and calls out "More!" gleefully while smiling at the bartender and bouncing on the tips of their toes. Or they could be the person at a bar that slams their drink, bangs the glass down on the bar, and yells "More!" frowning at the bartender then standing on their tiptoes, looking impatiently for anything that could be keeping the bartender from serving them faster. Materially, they've performed many of the same actions, but the body language and tone make a big difference in how I perceive it. And, you're right, there isn't much in the way of textual clues from just a written "More!".

I get those type of comments are annoying but maybe you shouldn't take it so personally. Those commenters are usually kids who just read something they enjoyed and asked for more. They aren't thinking "I'm gonna force them to write more just for me" or however else people are taking it.

I know a lot of them are just dumb kids.

I'm just getting a flashback to that time, in the middle of a longfic that was a plotting nightmare, when that person who had never commented or kudosed or, or anything, left a shitty passive-aggressive note about had I considered an update schedule? Just 'cause my erratic chapter posting was driving them crazy, see...

*Poor them*

I think since it is a comment to me on my fic, I do take it at least a little personally. I don't think they are going to force me to write more or anything, demanding is just the way it comes across to me, whether they meant it that way or not. A lot of commenters are courteous about it, writing things like: "I would love to see more in this universe" and "This is awesome, a sequel would be great". I don't think everyone needs to leave a comment like that, nor do I expect them to, but I don't think an author hoping for courtesy (like a "please") or some other indication of enjoyment (like a smiley face or "Yay!") is anything to be outraged about, either.
