Venting mechanisms
I'm discovering my job is leading to a lot of anger at government officials that I have to (try to) call on a daily basis. Obviously I can't yell at them even when they are incompetent and/or purposefully difficult. So I need to find some useful ways to vent this anger. Posting has been semi helpful, but it can get me even more fired up again as well.

When our neighborhood pool opens in a few weeks, I'm going to try that when I can.
Re: Venting mechanisms
But the only thing I got is video games, but if I am in a mood I just get super pissed at those too.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-31 12:49 am (UTC)(link)I've found that a stress ball or fidget toy can help bleed frustration in the moment. It's something to occupy your hands, and give your brain a little bit of distance from the thing that makes you want to scream. Physical activity after work helps on the larger scale - kickboxing and swimming are my poison of choice, but anything that gets you moving and burns off that energy and gives you an endorphin boost is great. And sometimes you really do just need to vent to a colleague about this one asshole, can you believe it, just to get it out there and move on. I've found sooner is better, since it gets the frustration out there rather than letting it fester and revisiting it later.
Re: Venting mechanisms
Honestly, I just think that particular agency attracts the ones who hate immigrants and are genuinely obstructionist. But I don't think that extends to other agencies. Just that one. Well, and border patrol too.

I just get frustrated because I have to deal with the worst of them in my job. And it is people's lives that are being impacted. And trying to avoid talking to attorneys so you can trick the immigrants into going forward with their cases unrepresented is just not okay. And it happens all too often.
