Venting mechanisms

[personal profile] philstar22 2018-05-30 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
What ways or things do you use to vent emotions you can't express at a specific moment?

I'm discovering my job is leading to a lot of anger at government officials that I have to (try to) call on a daily basis. Obviously I can't yell at them even when they are incompetent and/or purposefully difficult. So I need to find some useful ways to vent this anger. Posting has been semi helpful, but it can get me even more fired up again as well.

But the only thing I got is video games, but if I am in a mood I just get super pissed at those too.

I write short, bloody fic/prose to get all my feelings out. And then yoga to cool down.

I play angry music in my car and sing at the top of my lungs during my lunch break.

I go to the harbour and watch waves smash into things and splash people who are for some reason always surprised that they got wet. It's very satisfying.

On behalf of my fellow low-level government officials, thank you for not biting people's heads off even if you're pissed off and think they're being obstructive.

I've found that a stress ball or fidget toy can help bleed frustration in the moment. It's something to occupy your hands, and give your brain a little bit of distance from the thing that makes you want to scream. Physical activity after work helps on the larger scale - kickboxing and swimming are my poison of choice, but anything that gets you moving and burns off that energy and gives you an endorphin boost is great. And sometimes you really do just need to vent to a colleague about this one asshole, can you believe it, just to get it out there and move on. I've found sooner is better, since it gets the frustration out there rather than letting it fester and revisiting it later.

Reading bashing fics. I get to project all my negativity on some fictional characters, and no real life people get hurt.

Styles/fashion things you wish were in style/would go away

[personal profile] philstar22 2018-05-30 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
What fashion things do you wish would come back, and/or what things do you wish would go away for ever?

In: Cotton needs to come back in. Everything is polyester for some reason this season. All I want is some nice, cool cotton t-shirts, shorts, and nightgowns. It is hot here. Nothing beats cotton when I want to be comfy/cool/not sweaty.

Out: Skinny jeans still need to go away. Or at least, bootcut need to be back in style. I can't wear skinny jeans. I can't even get them on. But even in the plus size stores everything is skinny jeans and leggings. I want a new pair of jeans. I need one. But I can't find one that is the style I want in the type of denim I want.

High-waisted shorts with like a 0.5" inseam need to go AWAYYY. They look good on literally no one and combine the comfort of a restrictive waistband around the bottom of your lungs with the practicality of letting your butt cheeks hang out. Also when you sit down they poof out in front to make you look like you've got a ginormous belly no matter how thin you actually are.

Please come back: Long flowy skirts. I cannot find a long flowy skirt ANYWHERE. I love them, they are comfortable in the summer when it's warm and the winter with leggings under. But every time I think I see a flowy skirt on the rack, it ends up being fucking flowy floral pants

Go away: Flowy floral pants that pretend to be skirts at a distance. (Cute skorts can stay, those things are awesome. and also need to come back because they aren't a thing anymore?)

Out: those sheer, thin shirts that make you have to wear a tank top with them. They look like they'd be light and airy but when you have to wear a whole separate shirt too, it makes it hot, ugh.

I want JNCO jeans to come back

I still wouldn't wear them but it sure was funny watching everyone else wear them

I don't know what they're selling in stores, but I'm liking the overall trends in high-end RTW right now. High waistlines, wide legs, creative denim that isn't all ripped up skinny jeans. A wider shoulder line (yes, even shoulder pads). It's giving me a new appreciation for 80s styles, which I never thought I'd say - but then 80s are basically a remix of 40s, and I do love 40s style.

What I'm NOT looking forward to seeing revived (and unfortunately, it's well on its way) is athleisure. ICK. I can't stand sports or workout styles.

I am so over the statement sleeve and cold shoulder trends. The latter can go die in a fire.

Come back:
Comfy and cute short sleeved tops with nice details. I can find plain t-shirts and fancy blouses but the in between stuff that could be nice casual or dressed up is lacking at the moment.
T-shirt maxi dresses. I have worn mine to death because they're so great in summer and I can't find nice replacements.
Long basketball and board shorts for men. I used to buy them instead of ladies shorts because I don't wear tiny shorts. Men's fashion is tiny shorts now too.

Go away:
Stuff that's cut low or open or dipping or has weird holes that mean you can't wear a bra or raise an arm without flashing someone.
Cheap synthetic fabric that clings and makes you feel sweaty all the time.

I want capes to make an actual comeback. All kinds. Also those coats with a small cape attached, like those old coachmen coats.

I want animal prints, NEON and crop tops to die forever. Also those ugly chockers made of thin plastic strings? I hate those things.

Leggings can go away forever because too many people can't seem to comprehend that they are not meant to be a substitute for pants. They're meant to be worn under a long top or a dress, not on their own. I do not want to see your ass and camel toe in that much lurid detail, thanks. Doesn't matter whether you're a size 0 or a size 20.

I like the relaxed '00s style.

Slippers and other nightwear in public - I could do without.

Looks like Disney will by buying Fox.

How do you want to see the Fox Marvel properties put into the MCU? Or do you not want them added?

I'm making a list of fantasy-genre stuff for when I'm on bedrest.

So what's your favorite of the genre? Any type of media. Just your favorites. Want to see if there is anything I'm missing.

Scifi with a fantasy feel is acceptable too.

Sketchy Jobs

(Anonymous) 2018-05-31 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
So, I applied at this company to review books on Amazon. Thought it might be a good way to earn extra cash. The email response specifically states that the reviews have to be 4-5 star positive reviews. Looking at their website, they're mainly a self-publishing business. I guess fake reviews are another service they offer writers.

Did you ever apply for a job that turned out sketchy? Or one that just wasn't what you imagined?
