1. they do a keyword search looking for something to rage about
2. they identify one of your posts containing that keyword
3. they reblog it with a "callout" (usually little more than "bad post op")
4. it gets picked up throughout their entire network putting hundreds of randos on your timeline in a matter of hours.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-19 12:23 am (UTC)(link)Hell I block people on petty shit. Blocking isn’t hard. You’re free to block who you want for whatever reason. Why be so hesitant to use that damn button?

(Anonymous) 2018-06-19 12:29 am (UTC)(link)However, a lot of the more dedicated anti-whatever blogs will create multiple accounts because they know people are blocking them. Depending on the fandom size it's never just one or a few people that you block and everything is better. There are hundreds and even if you block them there are more bandwagoners coming all the time.

It's why people have been dropping out of social media right and left lately. Personal block tools don't scale to handle multi-account mob brigading.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-19 12:26 am (UTC)(link)One down... hundreds more to go and new ones incoming all the time.
Never mind the fact that some people whose blogs I love don't just ignore the toxic people like they should, they have to reblog and talk about it all the time. So I still have to see it. Or maybe I should just lecture them on what they should and should not interact with.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-19 12:36 am (UTC)(link)And those people you follow don't tag that shit? Because if they tag consistently, you can blacklist those tags and not see them talking about that.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-19 12:54 am (UTC)(link)Don't engage them, if they try to engage you block them, and keep anon asks off.

Or just holding the opinion that people who do a "problematic" ship shouldn't be chased out of fandom to protect the precious feels of tumblr young adults.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-19 01:06 am (UTC)(link)And hey, 1000+ followers and many not-anti-approved posts later, and so far I've only got one negative ask! I blocked that person, and I have yet to hear again from them.
Guess that not playing their game helps to avoid the biggest issue with antis. But if you still want to engage them just so you can complain about them... have fun with that, if you enjoy that negativity?

(Anonymous) 2018-06-19 01:42 am (UTC)(link)Just because a strategy worked for one person doesn't mean it's a universally-successful strategy; you can't properly generalize individual experiences to a broader population purely by virtue of those experiences.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-19 03:41 am (UTC)(link)Shit happens, tumblr (like any popular site) is a mixed bag, and yes, there're awful people there who do harass others with any excuse, and worse.
But anyone's tumblr experience doesn't have to be pure hell. There are tools to avoid the worse or even to make it good, and using them instead of fearing all the time is better.
