This seems to be true. Nothing wrong with incorporating your beliefs into your art but whenever someone puts their Cause ahead of the quality of their work, the results tend to be what you expect. Hence the reason why so much conservative evangelical art is bad, everything has to preach a blatant and literal minded moral lesson according to a very strict guideline. And conforming to this is slightly more important than doing your very best work.

When I was younger and trying to learn anatomy, my artist friends just pointed me to good hentai artists. You learn from looking at real anatomy + following references ofc, but looking at art where naked bodies work also helps I feel.

Or maybe it doesn't, but I had fun anyway.

I mean, a comic artist I used to follow actually recommended drawing porn to get better at anatomy, because when you can't hide your problem areas under (drawn) clothes, you HAVE to practice drawing them and get better.

Honestly, why are people so against aging up characters?

I think some people think it's like waiting excitedly for a minor actor to be 18 and counting down to win it's legal to fuck them.

Ageing up CAN come across this way sure, but to act like they're always the same is stupid and just results in you looking like a lunatic who is obsessed with the 'purity' of fictional young characters and that's never a good luck honestly.

People grow up it's a fact. You can age up someone without making it look like you're eagerly counting down to their 18th birthday to fuck them.

Right? This hang up fandom has now is so weird to me. I'm an old fart from a smaller movie fandom where the main character was a teenager at the time of the movie. Nearly all the fics involve that character as an adult because... who the hell wants to only limit themselves to one time period? 99% of fandom wants to write fics of what happens when the character is older and sometimes that includes romance.

I choose to believe you're talking about Sarah from Labyrinth on basically no evidence. I'm SO thankful that movie came out when it did. Just the thought of how much anti wank there would be if it came out in this day and age makes me ill.

I'll be glad when this pendulum swings back. Why are so many teenagers on the purity bandwagon?

For some reason seeing people trying to police what others do in their own little corner of fandom always gives me a little bit of second-hand embarrassment.

Same, the lack of self awareness and the bloated sense of their own importance gives me the cringe-sweats.

But how do they expect to be able to tell whether I'm aging him up "just to ship him with someone" or not? Maybe I aged him up so I could get him away from the canon setting and let him have some adventures on his own. Maybe I aged him up so I could give him a girlfriend. How the fuck is J. Random Sanctimonious over here going to know which?

What kind of entitled fucker thinks this shit will work? I can only imagine they are sheltered brats that think everyone should conform to make the internet their safe space.

I guess it "works" in the sense that inevitably someone will break their rules and they get to reaffirm their performance of moral superiority by complaining, the main thing they're good at in "fandom."

Or it means they get to doxx and bully and generally make life hell for some poor fuck and justify it by claiming that they're a "gross person" and deserves it.

That's often these people's aim. They're looking for someone who they can be as much of a bully as they want to be, but not feel bad about because " ~~people I convince myself are~~ pedophiles are terrible and deserve it"
