That was both surreally 50's and somehow modern.

I feel sick

My first major screw up as a lawyer. The client has a first name that can be either gender, but in the spelling of a woman. Didn't realize client was a man. Wrote an entire brief based on gender/sexuality grounds for asylum under the belief client was a woman. The assistant already submitted it since it was due today. God. I don't even know what to do.

As someone with a unisex name (Though not one that's spelled differently depending on gender.....the only name I can think of there is Blair/Blaire), I'm sure they're used to it.

But you'll probably have to write it again, and hopefully they don't fire you :/

Own up immediately. Apologise. Ask to extend the deadline to resubmit if possible. If not possible, ask anyway. Keep asking. Ask everyone you can reach. Politely harass. Let them know that you will haunt their inboxes and answering machines for eternity if they don't help you unfuck this.

I have fucked up important legal paperwork before too. I know we're not supposed to, because it's a very important job and people depend on everything going smoothly. BUT IT HAPPENS. Ask anyone senior to you about the first time they stuffed something up. Everyone has a story or five.

I want to tell you it will be fine and you'll never mess up again, but sometimes the work you don't do is the difference between something going your way or not going your way. You will keep making mistakes. You will learn from them. In the future you will have the opportunity to help more people with everything you've learned.

I once messed up an important thing involving an abused infant if it makes you feel less shitty in comparison. Taking on work that helps vulnerable people is so important and it does make a difference, but it also means that you probably still have feelings, and it's not all wins. It burns you out a lot faster, and you get to spend a lot of time hating how powerless you are.

I overused the word 'important' but I am half asleep. Please hang in there. I'm really bad at being comforting but you can PM me if you need to panic at someone a bit. <3

Own up your error ASAP, don't wait for it to be discovered. Request politely to fix and resubmit.

And frankly, I hope your entire brief wasn't really based on gender/sexuality as grounds for asylum because that sounds like a really weak case. I can't imagine even a liberal judge granting asylum based on the fact that somebody is female and nothing else.

Do you have a favorite food you'll always order in a restaurant? For example, whenever you get Chinese food, no matter what Chinese restaurant you're in, you always order beef and broccoli.

Braums Quarter Pounder Cheeseburger with mayo, ketchup, mustard, and onions with a large fry. It is my cheat meal.

That's funny, because beef and broccoli is such a conservatively non-Asian order at a Chinese restaurant.

Me, if I'm at an Indian or Pakistani restaurant and they have goat, I'll likely order the goat. Ditto Jamaican restaurant if they have goat curry.

Chinese: chicken and broccoli (or shrimp and broccoli if they have it). I know it's not traditional. But I grew up eating a lot of stir fry and rice and it reminds me of that.
Thai: Pad Thai
Vietnamese: Pho Ga
Japanese: tuna or octopus sashimi
Philipino: Adobo
Mexican or Tex-Mex: enchiladas verdes

I don't but my sister always wants chile rellenos if we're having Mexican food and mu shu pork if we're having Chinese.

Milkshakes. Grilled octopus at tapas places, always gotta get the grilled octopus. Italian sandwiches, especially if they have good bread.

And then, just in general, across the board - pizza.

Salmon's my usual go-to, especially in restaurants with a lot of meat dishes (since I don't eat red meat and I'm too picky about chicken to ever order it).

Chicken flautas at tex mex places, though enchiladas are a close second.

Yellow curry at Thai places.

I was thinking about getting into it, I even visited one of the comms here (bakerstreet) but...i don't get it entirely.

Where does the interaction take place?
Do I have to be a canon character? what if I want to make my own/someone has already chosen the character I want? (I do believe rules may apply depending on the board?)

Does anyone know of a primer for newbies, or care to share your Doing histiry/experience? Thank you!!!
