I think F!S needs it's anon users, but I think it also needs named ones too. For one thing, named and recognizable users help keep communities going. Note how often we get threads of people commenting how they miss seeing xyz users around, and how many people remember "regular" F!S users years and years after they left. People with names attached to them make a place feel alive, unlike a bunch of anons shouting into the void. They help make it feel like a community. This is especially true for communities where a large portion of the content is just general chatter and personal crap, like F!S where half or more of the comments any given day are in the GC.
