Why the fuck is she someone who has to put up a fight against white supremacists? I'd sue some asshole too if they said it was my job to do that as a singer.

I wouldn't call it her job per say. But I do think that us white people, given the privilege we have, do bear some responsibility to speak out about racism we hear/see (if it is safe to do so, I don't think people have to risk their lives or anything). So I do kind of sideeye her a bit.

She's got people trying to make her state a stance on EVERYTHING. There's been actual articles written about how her not talking about politics makes her complicit in everything that goes wrong in politics. How many celebrities stick their foots in their mouths and have to apologize? A LOT. Almost CONSTANTLY.

If I was that famous, I'd stay out of that shit too. Who needs that much stress?

I see both sides of this, but on a philosophical level, I can't say I have a problem with a singer wanting to just sing, and use her public persona purely for that. Once you give in to some people demanding you say something about one issue, suddenly you have to make statements about all kinds of issues. And maybe you want everyone to be able to enjoy your music, and maybe your politics are your own damn business and no one else's.

That being said, I'm not familiar with this specific controversy. It's not really controversial - or rather, SHOULDN'T be controversial - to speak out against racism.

I'm not saying that I necessarily disagree with this standard or this criticism. But I don't think it's particularly valid of Taylor Swift as compared to almost any other pop star or celebrity - and yet people seem to make the criticism of her specifically, and with enormous vitriol. And that seems like bullshit, and I don't think the "Nazi fans" thing justifies it at all, given how marginal that is.

It's especially frustrating and stupid when *the exact same people* making this criticism of Swift are simultaneously offering endless excuses for Kanye West actively and consistently saying things that are supportive of Trump, multiple times, over a long period of time. It's ridiculous and it's impossible to take seriously.

I think the subsequent argument that people make, where they conclude that she's definitely a racist and a Trump supporter, is much more tenuous and objectionable.
