Your friend sounds like an asshole. I would never tell a friend something they enjoy is "garbage", that's incredibly rude .

Yep. I had one friend who used to constantly complain about me calling a show she liked "stupid" because that obviously meant I thought she was stupid. It was just her way of guilting me because I occasionally suggested a movie to go to while saying I didn't want to see her choice (*gasp* the horror!)

...I never refer to any shows my friends clearly like as "stupid". That's kinda rude? Like, I have friends very into Voltron currently, and I think it's a bad show, but to them I say "all the fandom drama turns me off" which is also true.
The series in the secret was a different case though, it was just a series I enjoyed watching, so I decided to suggest it. I don't know what I'd do if she called garbage some of the series that are my fandoms I'm drawing fanarts for.

Where in the secret is OP giving the impression that they do "give it out"? Do you think they're lying about the part where they said they kept it to themselves out of respect for their friend when they didn't like something their friend recommended?

IDK, "garbage" is one of those words that seems a lot more extreme to some people than others IME

Do you think people mean it when they call themselves "trash" for liking someone/something? Or say "If X happens, I'll kill myself" or...

People use exaggerated language, especially in regards to fandom, news at 11.

OP isn't talking about other people who use exaggerated language about other things. OP is talking about a friend who called her recommended series garbage that she "would never watch." That, to me, comes off as extreme instead of simply saying "no thanks" or "I don't like things like that."

It wasn't a reply to the original post; it was a reply to you. Again: people use hyperbole all the time, especially in fandom. To many people, "that's garbage" would have the same connotation as "I don't like things like that". Just because you don't read it that way doesn't mean the OP's friend was being purposely insulting.

I was talking about an extreme reaction in regards to the original post. I am not talking about other people who use exaggerated language in other situations. Clearly, OP did not take "that's garbage" simply to mean "I don't like things like that" if she was put off by the reaction. Could OP's friend have meant it that way? It's possible, but there's no need to imply that I've never heard of anyone else in the world using exaggerated language.

I still wonder if the reaction was bad because I worded it all wrong and came off as too forcefull? This is why I mentioned it in the secret.
But I feel like the way she suggests things to me is pretty similar? Usually she asks if I'm free and suggests to watch stuff together, so it's kinda hard to refuse, and after all, I like watching stuff together.
