I don't get the point of heterosexual a/b/o.

How so?

Well, I mean, A/b/o was invented, as far as I understand, for the sake of MPREG and other things to happen in slash pairings that usually only happen with het pairings.

Because it seems to me like the whole point is for it to be m/m. M-preg, putting men in subservient sexual roles, watching wolf-ish dominant men be protective and possessive of pretty guys.

idk. I don't get the appeal if it's heterosexual. it seems like the whole kink was devised exclusively for systematic yaoi kinks, but to each their own.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
This might be sort of a unique take, but in my version of a/b/o, all alphas have dicks, so an alpha female and omega male pair (of which I have a couple) takes on some interesting aspects. As well as alpha/alpha or omega/omega het pairs, or a beta dealing with the weird aspects of an alpha or omega partner... there's still a lot to explore within a/b/o dynamics regardless of the gender makeup, I think!

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
IA except I do not get hetero alpha male/female omega A/B/O bc that is basically, um, the 50s?

I hope a/b/o continues to die down a bit. Not only is the strict gender roles and domination a major turn off/trigger, but it was everywhere in the tags I used to search. 80% of the search results would be stuff I would try to quickly skim past because it was nothing but a/b/o.

Has it calmed down some? It's been a while since I've been in fandom, but I don't remember seeing it as much. But then again, that could be because of me not being around as much lol.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know if it's calmed down. It's showing up more in BL manga and that's really annoying.

I'm in both English and Chinese fandoms. It's finally sliiiightly dying in most English fandoms (especially for well-written longfic which I care more about)...and just starting to become a trend in Chinese fandoms. Kill me now, please.

I don't get the point in being so angry about a fic trope. Let people have their fun, you have your fun. There's no need for negativity.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
not secret maker but the "point of getting angry" for me is that it's SUCH a squick for me, and 1) some of my favorite fandoms were absolutely drenched with the stuff to the point where they weren't fun for me any more, and 2) because it's such a popular kink, it often rises to the top of kudos/bookmarks when I'm trying to use those to filter for, you know, quality

(....and 3, there are ASPECTS of it that I really like, especially the heat/desperation and bonding parts, that I WANT to be able to enjoy it, but the biological determinism and knotting are such turn offs that I usually can't. And all the people who say they're into the ~social aspects and worldbuilding~ or whatever usually only make it more contrived, not interesting or palatable.)

Let people complain about it. It's came about suddenly everywhere, and there's probably some folks who aren't a fan of the themes. Not everyone is going to be into forced gender roles and biotruths.

You've sure given a lot of thought to something you hate, OP. I can't stand A/B/O, especially when it randomly shows up untagged in an otherwise good fic. I don't want it to go away because there are people who enjoy it, but I do want it to be less pervasive or at least tagged so I can filter it out.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
A/B/O is just IDEGI.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
A/B/O is nasty. :(

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
I wanna see ABO or mpreg modelled after spotted hyenas' pseudo-phalluses. Instead of ass-babies, some actual biological precedent and that.

Just... not enough to write it.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Man, maybe it's just me, but I never do ass-babies. When I do a/b/o and a omega boy gets knocked up, he's having a c-section.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
lmao

Thanks anon

You might enjoy Ruby Dixon's Ice Planet Barbarian series.

Haha that's a lot of thought put into it.

Ngl it's sorta a guilty pleasure of mine in BL manga when it's done entertainingly, but even I'm starting to get tired of it. Mostly when the stories read like a shoujo manga and has the omega character beating themselves up for being an omega. It's just been the same rehashed thing over and over without bringing anything new to the table. /ramble

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
I love a/b/o but only if I get to play with the world building aspect of it and the fact that being one type or another doesn't necessarily change the core person's personality. Like a society dominated by Omegas because they're more rare than anything else and so they get to call the shots and chose their mates and over the centuries society fell into place with the rest of it. Or the super sweet natured hulking alpha and the bossy little omega who adores him. Or the Omega that understands how different physical actions trigger responses in Alphas and manipulates the situation accordingly. Or a super civilized society that's pretty much normal except there's this whole 'heat' thing that still goes on and they've come up with way to work around it but can't seem to entirely get rid of the pesky thing - looking at you, Vulcans.

Basically I just enjoy exploring the structure of it and seeing how you can play around with it and switch things up. Which, I'm not sure qualifies as a kink anymore. A world building kink maybe? Social deconstruction kink?

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to see A/B/O with alpha females that goes into heat and mates with omega males - and it's the alpha females that gets pregnant.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It's one of the things I just can't stomach. I can read fic with weird shit I'm not into, but not if one of those things is a/b/o. Just no.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Sooo... it's OK the way you headcanon it, but not the way other people do? I don't get this secret. Were we supposed to praise your super-logical a/b/o world building because it's so different to all the icky m/m mpreg and knotting fic, or what?
