Goddamn, same. And I say that as a lesbian. This performative garbage is so insulting, I can't stand it.

There is performative stuff, but I don't think this is it

Because m/m shippers also do this and it doesn't seem performative there so I don't think it is here

Lol I'm the anon above who mentioned people doing the same with m/m ships, I was about to say this

I do think some of it is performative and probably some part of it is pairing up the spare women to "get them out of the way" of whatever other juggernaut ships, but I also think way more women are way more comfortable now expressing their interest in f/f than before, or openly identifying as bi/gay. If m/m shippers don't need a reason besides "whatever, I think they're hot together" neither should f/f

Though shipping things seriously with deep romances and shit before the character even gets a character or personality is equally lol for both

Fuck, I know, specially when it's clear from the writing that they're pushing themselves to do it but would rather write a m/m pairing (for example, because the f/f fic revolves around the two women getting a m/m ship together).

NAYRT

It didn't sound like that was what OP was talking about though. Those are technically m/m shippers who want to "get the woman out of the way", not really f/f shippers, arent they?

I've seen f/f shippers who are eager to jump on any female character to pair another female character with or saying they'd love a ship with [female character] because she strikes them as totally queer but there aren't any eligible women and they're waiting for one to appear, etc etc. At least, that's how I interpreted the secret. It's just typical shipper behavior really

*I'd like to add there's nothing unusual with waiting around to pounce on a ship, whether it's for f/f or m/m or m/f or whatever, which is what I meant by a typical shipper behavior thing

I was replying to the commenter who described some f/f shipping as performative, rather than to the secret itself.

Oh gotcha. Nvm then :)

As another lesbian, get the fuck over your high and mighty self.

I don't have many options, and I know my damn aesthetic tastes in my lesbian ships. It ain't performative.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-31 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
It isn't about you. The people who used to call women who got in the way of their m/m ships are now pretending to headcanon them as lesbians. It's usually something outside of wlw with straight girls trying to pretend to be woke and not get shit on by the purity brigade saying if you don't like these characters you're misogynists.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-29 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
there's definitely a weird stink of eat your veggies femmeslash when this occurs and and godforbid you point it out or you get painted some kind of misogynist if you don't like it
