Movies, food, books, TV shows, bands, etc, etc, etc. And why you think it's actually good.

Inspired by someone yesterday who said that they thought Tomorrowland was a good movie, and I'm honestly really curious to know why

John Carter got so many negative reviews. I don't get it. It flopped because the budget was too big and the marketing was terrible. But the movie was really good.

I think that's an example where it had got so much bad pre-release press that people went into it with their minds already made up.

Agreed.

Some food I like but no one I know PERSONALLY likes. Spam and vienna sausages. Cold pizza. Dipping my fries in mayonnaise.

Fried spam is very tasty. :D

Cold pizza is 100% better than hot pizza. Sometimes I order pizza in just to have it the next day.

I like cold pizza. The food I don't know of anyone liking is those awful orange marshmallow peanuts that don't taste like orange or peanut.

Cold pizza is fine, but I'm not a massive pizza fan anyway so it doesn't taste all that much different to me aside from not being warm.

Fries+mayo is tasty though, and mixing ketchup+mayo together is also good.

Yessssss on all, though Vienna sausages and therefore many similar canned meats are more of a nostalgia thing - my mom used to make a chicken stuffing that used Vienna sausages and it was magical.

Whether pizza tastes good cold is my touchstone for pizza quality, although tbh to me most pizza tastes better cold anyhow.

(Partly because I try not to eat anything after 7 pm, so if pizza appears late, it's always a next day thing for me anyhow.)

Nickelback. I actually had no idea that everyone hated Nickelback until I posted that I was going to one of their concerts and one of my FB friends did the whole "Ew, Nickelback sucks" thing. They may be a little generic, but I genuinely enjoy their music and they put on a really good show.

I don't get the hate either.

As you said they're a bit generic but otherwise their songs are decent enough and they've got a couple that I really, really like. Just seems like they're one of those Things to hate with no real reason.

I mean if they're not somoene's type of music that's fine, but the overblown internet hate like they're The Worst Band Ever is a bit much.

Whenever I want to stir up trouble online, I just have to voice an unpopular opinion.

Typing "I really unironically like singing along to Nickelback." usually generates three or more pages of frothing tl:dr in some volatile forums.

Nickelback is okay, I don't really feel strongly about them either away.

But the funny thing is I really like "Photograph" while everyone I know thinks that song sucks.

I loved everything about Tomorrowland except it needed more Hugh. :P That and it was a dead giveaway that the science fiction memorabilia shop was a fake because it had no Star Trek or Dr. Who stuff in it.

FRIENDS, it seems. It has its faults, but I think in some ways it was actually progressive for its era (not the least Carol and Susan, despite the admittedly cringeworthy portrayal at points), and it's just a fun show, even if Rachel and Ross were the least interesting (yet most focused on) part of the whole thing. ;)

Charades. It's infamous for being a pretentious party game, but I actually like it, as long as it's played with a sense of humor and not by sticklers for the rules.

The 2000's Fantastic Four movies.

They are 100% goofy and ridiculous but completely roll with it, thus they are super-fun. But they're wildly regarded as trash among most superhero movie fans.

Jurassic Park 2 and 3, idk I just genuinely enjoy most of the JP movies no matter how silly. Just gimmie dinosaurs bro.

I liked Avatar a lot, inasmuch as it has some clichés that Cameron can't get over doing and it could have done a more positive and interesting treatment of disabilities. It's just very immersive and has some moments I found really emotional.

I haven't seen Tomorrowland but it does have its share of fans for sure.

Candy corn. I absolutely love that stuff, and mellowcreme pumpkins, too. I always buy at least one bag of each every Halloween. Finding the pumpkins on sale at Walmart a few weeks ago was one of the best things that happened to me all fucking year. Other people think candy corn and pumpkins are gross? GOOD. More for me.

Moving on, Captain Janeway is my favorite Trek Captain. She's tough, brilliant, would do anything for her crew ~~especially Seven~~ and is gorgeous to boot. While I can certainly agree that there are plenty of valid criticisms to be made about her character (especially regarding the inconsistent writing), the intense level of hatred I've seen directed towards her by so many Trek fans is kind of disturbing at times, though not particularly surprising, given that she was the first female lead in Star Trek, which is apparently more than reason enough for a large portion of the fandom to hate her guts. Regardless, I will always be completely gay for Janeway.
