If you could learn a new language, what language would you pick?

I'm talking total fluency, both reading and writing. And why do you choose that particular language?

Spanish. It would be the most useful.

Mandarin Chinese. I think tonal languages are really cool, and that's probably the most widespread/useful of the bunch.

Japanese, for dumb comic related reasons. It's on my list of languages I want to learn, but most of the rest are at least Indo-European, and the two others are at least used around here.

If we mean magic mastery, then Japanese, for anime/manga-related reasons.
Realistically, I've been meaning to learn German for a couple of years, gave up twice already, but I can try again.

Spanish. Because it would be helpful with my work. My second choice would be one of the indigenous Mayan languages because, again, work.

From just wanting to learn it: Mandarin Chinese or Japanese.

From it being useful: Hindi or Gujarati.

Japanese for study related reasons.

Mandarin for nerdy reasons -all those webnovels I could read without waiting for (partially questionable) fan translations.

I have the complete set of Firefly DVDs and also Serenity. I also have Buffy, season three set on DVD (Region 1 - US).

I'm happy to mail these to anyone if you wanna pay for shipping via paypal. They work, are complete and not battered or trashed or anything.

What do you all on here think of it? I have never read the book, which seems like a bonus because of how it greatly differs. I am enjoying it so far but it is very dark.

Not only because my sister-in-law is Thai and it'd be nice to be able to understand her first langauge, and visit without making her work as translater all the time, but also because I think if I've magically managed that tonal language, any other should be easy.
