They...literally said it? What do you think imagining is?

(Anonymous) 2018-08-08 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
No, a vague half-assed apology would be something like "words were said, who can remember, I'm sorry people were offended but we all need to move on now."

Oh no... I remember reading her stuff; it was some of my favorite fic and I reread some of them just last year. I guess I assumed that she grew away from fandom in general. I hope that she did.

Ah, the old "you're making sense so you must be the same person" argument.

Bridge is over there; I suggest you get back under it tonight before they assume it's not in use.

A Booster Gold movie

I *need* this in my life. :)

I guess I just don't get it in a fandom like Tolkien where there is every type of ship under the sun. You want sappy and romantic, there are plenty of options to choose from. Why go for the villains if you aren't interested in that dynamic?

There is some excellent Jensen/Cougar fic out there! Pistol and storm_petrel have written some excellent stuff.

Went to a casino for the first time and won $130 on the slots. I will probably never get that lucky again, if I ever go back.

I haven't read it yet ("yet", all I've read are the Leia novels), but that concerns me.

Okay, this is only tangentally a fandom gripe, but my local library system (which I work for, shh) offers downloadable e/e-audio-books. Which is great. We’ve switched ebook subscription services a couple times, and one of the more recent is called Enki. Me being me, I recently went looking for Beauty and the Beast retellings. There are lots of decent-to-amazing ones out there. The ones on offer through Enki, though, are... not so great.

In fact, they suck so mightily I was briefly afraid the suction would pull me through my phone screen into a land of badly photoshoped covers and poorly written Phantom of the Opera ripoffs. My library is paying a company subscription fees for shitty fanfic. I’ve read a lot of Phantom of the Opera fanfic, and this isn’t the good stuff. One of the covers apparently involved someone photoshopping a stock model’s face to have a white bit around one eye for the “mask.” The writing was worse than the Photoshop job.

If I wanted bad Phantom of the Opera fanfic or generic “hot asshole is called Beastly for his behavior” romance novels, I’d go read them. I may as well go read good BatB, PotO, or Rumbelle fanfic instead.

I went to the dentist today to get prepped for a crown - so I got a temporary crown on the tooth and an appointment for the real one in two weeks. Not fun but I’m glad I’m on the road of getting my garbage teeth fixed ;-;

Does the genre of the source material or gender of the participants matter? Is there a particular dynamic your other ships share?

Why should a company have to even risk a boycott if they don't want to or decide they don't feel like supporting the employee? How far to they have to go before it's ok to cut their losses and fire soneone? How much do they have to lose? What if it's not even about profit loss but a breach of company policy?

Especially since it's entirely possible to find something funny in the context of a joke (that has no relation to any actual real people) and not think the subject is funny at all in real life when it happens to real people. Dead baby jokes, for example. A lot of people laugh at dead baby jokes because they're about hypothetical dead babies rather than real ones, so there's no harm in laughing at them. These people absolutely would not find making a joke about a real baby's death funny in any way because that is an actual, real baby who died.

It's the divide between fiction and reality, basically.

yeah, disney should rehire him with an ass-covering statement that basically goes

- we rushed to act because these issues of sensitivity are so important to us (lmao no, they care about brand purity, but they can say it anyway)
- now that new facts have come to light about the source of this furor, we are reversing that decision as an active statement that the disney company will not be the tool of bad faith provocateurs and smear campaigns (puff up that heroic/virtuous language)
- we at the disney company believe in fairy tales, and in redemption, and we have seen how much gunn has grown as a person and a professional in the years since these deeply tasteless and much-regretted comments were made (better worded but you get the point, bring it all back to the #DisneyBrand)

I don't care about James Gunn personally at all, or the GotG, but I care a *lot* about the fact that this was obviously a dry run for the right-wing troll farm to target and punish other (and often more vulnerable) artists who promote politics they disagree with. and it worked.

I'd say it's because of the 'hot factor' if there's a lot of fanart or official art that depicts them as pretty-boys, and I know that Sauron was very good-looking at one point in his life(his whole life? Or does he turn after the fall of Numenor? I can't recall).

Otherwise the uh, less nice side of my brain posits that it's about attention more than actual love of the ship.

Or maybe they just pick their ships very strangely.

It wasn't even a joke, either. She tried to backpedal and claim it was, but if you read the original tweet, she very clearly meant it seriously.

I feel ya. My library used to have Overdrive but switched to Cloudlibrary. Bad photoshop everywhere.

Post fall of Numenor, he loses his "fair form" though the fandom does debate a bit on what that means. But yes, he was originally attractive in canon and was known for using that to his advantage.

Not the Anon but I love that movie (and the original cause Steve McQueen bias) and why have I never gone looking for fic, wtf me.

A stalker is stealing my comments and submitting them as secrets.

Re: Fandom gripes

It’s definitely not the majority opinion but I have seen one person trying to pull the “how can people ship Villanelle/Eve it’s soooo unhealthy and problematic!!!” thing in the Killing Eve fandom and that’s just. So ridiculous. I don’t know why they even watched the show considering it’s basically all about their relationship, and I hope they drop the fandom because I don’t want people like that in this fandom lol. Let me have this ONE canon dark femslash please.

Is it a stalker? I noticed someone has been turning comments into secrets, but are they really just targeting one person?
