Misread a name as female rather than male and wrote a whole brief based around persecution against a gay woman.

At my current job - Fell up the stairs on my first day in front of a colleague I hadn't even met yet. Accidentally said "I love you" instead of "thank you" to a customer. Did an early morning shift after two hours of sleep and just as a customer walked through the door, my mouth decided to go "GOOD MORNING CAN I GET YOU ANYTHING ELSE TODAY?" Asked a bald man if the hair scrunchie I'd found next to the till was his.

OMG I did the I love you thing on the phone once a long long time ago (I can still remember) because I always say 'love you' when hanging up with my brother/parents and my brain apparently forgot I was at work.

Lol, at least I'm not alone! Thankfully the customer just found it really funny and said "You're not quite awake yet, are you?" I wanted the ground to swallow me. :[

Hee, oh, man, I can relate so much-I worked at a bookstore and made my own version of the "Can I get you anything else today?" goofs I don't know how many times :p. And there were times I'd call people to tell them an order was in and, due to the fact I had numerous order slips in front of me, would sometimes accidentally say the wrong name. Ah, the joys of customer service, huh?

Your "I love you" one made me giggle :D.

Poked a hole thru the bottom of a styrofoam cup and got a whole large sonic drink on myself. :(

If it makes you feel any better, my dad accidentally punctured a can of coke on the edge of the shop counter as he was buying it. It exploded over him, the till and the two people in the queue next to him. They had to close the till for the rest of the day. D:

Called a fifth-grader the wrong name for two weeks. If anything can ever defend that, it was my first time ever teaching and the school was so understaffed that they were happy to hire an untrained college student as a substitute teacher.

I didn't find it very embarassing personally, because I get names wrong all the time. But the brats who refrained from correcting me for two weeks? Yeah, they probably thought they were embarassing my plenty.

To be fair when I was in sixth grade, I didn't tell one of my teachers I went by my middle name so she called me by my first name (I was intimidated? I don't know. I didn't have a problem telling the other teachers? It was weird....she was a nice lady but for some reason I was afraid to correct her) right up until a couple weeks later at parent-teacher night when she said something to my mom like, "oh, [first name] is doing well but I'm concerned she might have a hearing issue? Sometimes when I call her name she doesn't respond right away...." and that's when my mom had to tell her that I probably wasn't responding because nobody ever called me by that name.

Oops.

Pretty embarrassing on both sides I imagine!

Not really something I did so much as something that happened to me, but my pants split right in front of my boss. At least only my underwear showed and not anything else but I had to spend the rest of the day with a sweater tied around my waist. It was...not fun.

I once had the crotch of my trousers tear open while standing behind a public information desk, and had to ring home for someone to bring me a pair of pants. Definitely not a fun day at work.

I've also been found several times singing at/attempting to coax machines along like toddlers in an effort to get them to cooperate. And just generally talking to inanimate objects a lot.

A few days ago I was wearing a long skirt which was too big and it fell down. Completely. And I wasn't wearing leggings or anything underneath, just underwear. The person I was talking to was looking away when it happened and they didn't say anything and I'm not sure if it's because they honestly didn't see it or because what the hell do you say? I suspect it's the latter.

Cried after hanging up on a customer who was harrassing me. Nobody made fun of me and I was given an early break, but it was still embarrassing to sob like a freaking child because somebody over the phone was being shitty to me.

Aw, I totally sympathize with that reaction. I remember an incident once where my mom came home in tears after she dealt with some truly horrible customers that kept her at the store she worked at way past closing time (thus causing her to miss her usual bus home and having to take a late one), and I've worked retail and had a few nasty customers that totally threw off my mood and got to me as well. There's some truly shitty people out there-I think a lot of people would react similarly in your situation. I'm sorry you had to deal with that, but I'm glad that at least everyone else was understanding and let you take a needed break.
