Sorry to poll you guys so soon after the other one, but the idea came up: tagging posts with the fandoms of the posted secrets.

Pros:
+ Much easier to go back and find specific secrets
+ Much easier to go back and find specific fandoms
+ If you're late(r) to the post, easier to check for your fandoms without loading the post for the Name the Fandom thread

Cons:
- Giant block of tags at the bottom of each post (90 secrets with 90 fandoms = 90 tags in one post -- yeah)
- Waaay labor intensive; 584 posts to go back and tag (though you guys can help with this)

Ok! If we do put in tags, they'll go up on the posts after they've moved off the front page. So no GIANT LIST OF TAGS appearing on your flist, but they'll be there for anyone who wants to search the archives.

I think it's a great idea. I go to search for old secrets every time a get into a new fandom, so that would be a great help. I'd be willing to help with it, too, but it would be hard to tag the posts before the 'Name the fandom' thing was used, some of these are fairly obscure.

If number of tags get to be a problem due to the limit, could always group the like, ex. Doctor Who, Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood could go together or use Joss Whedon for all of his things (Firefly, Serenity, Buffy, Dr. Horrible)

ugh, no. why can't people just deal? think that kind of ruins it. also, in before wank about [insert fandom, most likely TDK, DW, PW, etc lol] having the most tags, spammy tagging, ETC. I can see people getting all up in a hissy about what should be tagged as what. I also think it's an eyesore lol. But mostly I think it's a nuisance. And really it's just dumb.

Think I'm gonna vote no on this.

But, here's an idea, which hopefully isn't completely stupid--maybe once a week or so you can make some sort of "WHAT'S THAT SECRET" post where people post and ask about secrets they want to find and the rest of the community (those willing, at least) can help them track it down?

A response in every day's secret post that's like the "name the fandom" post, except people will respond it to it to ask about secrets they want to track down. That would keep the community from getting too full of posts not having to do with the daily secrets posts and it would keep it fresh, since after a week I'm sure a separate post would be pretty much ignored.

Tagging seems a heck of a lot of work, just so you can search through the posts. Especially when there could only be one secret on a fandom in a thread of 90 secrets.

I'd almost think if there is an influx of secrets on specific things: Harry Potter, Twilight or The Dark Knight, perhaps bundle all the secrets together. So, an entire post on just that fandom. Way of 'tagging' the big fandoms.

Or perhaps making people include the fandom with their secret when they send it to you. Then you could just search for 'harry potter' and find all the secrets relatively easily.

Even if I votes yes it'd be pretty damn complicated unless you kept it REALLY vague (For secrets sake an your own not to go past the tag limit), like cartoons, comics, sci-fi, magna, loldrama, TV shows, ect. Ether that or an even easier idea or just forgo the idea.

As far as I know, there is a limit to tagging, I think it's a thousand posts. So if you mind that you won't be able to use the same tag for a given big fandom in about 600 posts, tagging is not the thing to do.

But I wouldn't be too upset if you end up not using them since it seems to put a hell lot of pressure on mods.

because I just remembered~ thesims2 has a special function where you can search all entries and comments, so couldn't this place have a similar thing? I guess for it to work people would have to go back and edit the posts and write the names of the fandoms by each secret and people would have to identify their fandoms in future for it to work though.
