I started watching today and...it's okay. Not totally aligned with the books and a bit...modern in ways that I don't think quite work.

But the best thing? Real snow. I hate how snow is portrayed, at least lately, on a lot of shows: white, fluffy paint or something that's sprayed over every inch of everything, up to about six feet high. Trees, buildings, everything. It's so freakin' weird.

I wasn't so fond of the books (I know, I'm evil) so I haven't watched it but the other day someone said they loved the show because it has LGBT representation. They may have been referring to more recent episodes though.

Why was Agatha Christie so good at coming up with plots and so bad at coming up with likeable characters?

Poirot is a terrible, stuck-up snob; Marple is a nasty, snoopy old lady. Even the standard middlebrow detective fiction intelligent-young-woman-with-gumption type, which has to be one of the easiest characters in the history of fiction to make likable, often misfires and becomes stuck-up or absurd.

Does anyone here still watch Supernatural? I stopped watching around S8 (I think the last episode I watched were the angels falling). I've been getting into some SPN fanfic because of this one Gen author.

Soooo, I thought about catching up but I am mostly only interested in Castiel and somewhat Dean. I can't stand the brother drama but I've heard it gets less common in like....10-13?

Those who still watch, worth it for a Cas fan?

As someone who's read the manga 15 years ago, has had years to come to terms with its ending, finds the anime's graphics hideous and the new fandom's obsession with "but will they KISS AGAIN/DO IT IN THE BUT??!" disgusting; newcomers' horrified reactions to every new episode fills me with schadenfreude.
Newcomers getting their panties in a knot over spoilers are even better. Dudes. Dudettes. The series exists for over 30 freaking years. New adaptation or not, it's OLD and wayyyy past spoilers-expiry date for manga readers.

Gastly! Has been since I was a tiny kid. I've always loved ghosts, and a tricksy poisonous will-o-the-wisp was always right up my alley.

(If we'd been allowed several, I'd've added in Articuno, for being ridiculously pretty and an awesome type combo, and Scyther, because cool bug-ninja with arm knives. Also, I seem to have a thing for dual-type pokemon. But, since we only get one, I have to pick my first and forever favourite)

School-year starts again tomorrow (your scholastic season may vary according to country of residence). I have no idea where the summer went. I am torn between "good lord, I should have spent more time with the nephews while they were about" and "OMG YAY QUIET MORNINGS AGAIN".
And of course the secondary shock of "damnit, that means uni starts again in less than a month" D:

Will manga ever go online legally?

I wish I could pay for a manga "streaming" service, like Netflix. It would be neat to pay a monthly fee to support the industry, and be able to read them online without guilt.

But the only one I know about is Lezhin, which is mostly just Korean comics. (I also think it's a little expensive, even though I regularly buy coins.)

Do you think this could happen? Is there any feasible way that it would work without just making it easier for people to read it illegally?
