Scarlet Witch is in way a popular character. I think for her it shows the opposite. She is unpopular enough that they are trying to get people into her.

Is in NO way*

OP...

(Anonymous) 2018-09-22 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, sorry, I left out "less". I meant to say they're the LESS popular characters. Sorry about that!

I wish she was more popular. I love her. And she's more interesting to me than Loki.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-22 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
seconded.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-22 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
They retconned her relationship with Magneto, killed her brother, made her not a mutant anymore, made her far less powerful, and not emotionally unstable anymore. Of course they can't find anything interesting to do with her: they removed everything that made her compelling in the first place.

You nailed it. The only interesting thing about her MCU self is her fashion sense.

I think their MCU background is still interesting. And there is a lot we don't know. Loki is played out. There isn't much left to do with him. Scarlet Witch has lots of story left, though.

Agreed on all of that. With an added side of white washing. I like Wanda a lot in the comics I've read and find her interesting. I've also liked her in other adaptations/cartoons. But I couldn't care less about her in the MCU. Which I think is a shame.

You do realise that Marvel Studios literally can’t have any connection to the XMen because Fox owns all those licenses right? Even the very idea of mutants. Sure, it might get retconned if/when the deal between Disney and Fox goes through, but until then they can’t do anything.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-22 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. I hate MCU Scarlet Witch so much!

(Anonymous) 2018-09-22 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I really WANT to love her but I feel the actress is just...so...so blah. Given the excellent casting of the men, I'm super annoyed that MCU keeps casting bland white women for our heroes.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-22 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The casting is really the least of which I'm upset about. *points to comment of what made her interesting in the first place*

(Anonymous) 2018-09-22 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm honestly not sure if the casting's the problem, so much as the removal of nearly everything interesting about the character and leaving the actress absolutely nothing to work with. Scarlet Witch is a really interesting character, but Elizabeth Olsen isn't playing Scarlet Witch at this point anymore.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-22 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree completely. I feel the same way about Captain Marvel. I'd like to get excited and interested, but it seems like a very bland, safe casting to me.

I could be interested in her as a supervillain; unfortunately, MCU treats her like the mindfucking she indulges in isn't absolutely heinous in every possible way. I can't stand it.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-23 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there's not much to her character except for her aweful "romance" with Vision (whom I also don't get at all), so giving her her own show and a chance to show some personality can only improve the situation.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-22 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I am WAY behind in my Marvel movies, but I hope they can bring her brother back. I liked their relationship.

I feel like the worst Loki fan in the world because I'm not excited about this. At all.

I knew it was extremely likely I wouldn't get "Loki has to team up with Thor and the Avengers and awkwardness ensues" in Infinity War but I was still disappointed. This rumoured show feels a bit like they're saying "hey this ought to shut you all up!" when in the main cinematic continuity (the only thing most casual viewers care about) we still got to watch Loki die perhaps one of the most drawn out and graphic deaths in the MCU. Idk. I'm perhaps still a hurting stan but the more I think about how they decided to end his arc, the more it feels excessively cruel.

Also I would very much be here for the popular fandom wish of Loki, Scarlet Witch and Strange somehow teaming up and using their various magical abilities together. These shows wouldn't be that I feel.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-22 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm also still very upset with what they did with Loki in Infinity War. I agree it was a drawn out and graphic death (also OOC- Loki always has a trick up his sleeve- he's a trickster! He's not going to act so stupid). I feel like the way they ended his arc is a big 'fuck you' to his fans! As a result, I'm not too bothered with the next film. I agree they wasted potential on a very interesting storyline with Loki teaming up with the Avengers (I also have problems with other aspects of IW but won't get into it).
However, I am excited for this tv series. Is it a hint they'll revive Loki in IW 2? Or will it be set in the past?

Also disagree OP. Loki has always been a very popular character in the Marvel Universe. That's precisely why they kept bringing him back again and again.

I feel you on this. Loki is at his best when he has people to play off of, and I have no faith that TPTB will surround him with anyone interesting.

OP with a typo...

Er Loki is very popular. That's why they kept bringing him back. Tom Hiddleston has even recently admitted they were meant to kill him off in Thor 3 but the audience wasn't buying it.

I don't see how a TV show with Loki would work, logistically. Hiddleston should be far too expensive for that by now and I don't really want MCU
Loki played by anyone else.
