This is a thread for stuff that didn't turn out the way you expected, not stuff that turned out the way that it was nauseatingly clear it was going to be the entire time.

I was told the Smallfoot film had some clever social commentary.

Let's just say that Monsters Inc. did it better, and that the rest of the film was nothing more than average chuckleworthy.

Monsters Inc had social commentary?

The blueberries I was going to eat. I was so excited, but alas mold took its hold.

... So, the last time my 5-year-old lil relative visited, she was obsessed with finding the perfect skirt. We went shopping a few times, but nothing was "right" and she couldn't quite articulate what she wanted. Finally, I told her to draw it, and that I'd keep looking after she went home. Meanwhile, I got some of the more sewing able family involved; I seriously nagged people that we had to make this thing. Got people to go to the fabric store and pick the perfect colours. Borrowed the neighbor's sewing machine. Got my mom to take hours out of her time visiting me to hem it. Picked out the finidngs and finished it. Wrapped it, with the original sketch, and was hoping for JOY.

and...

... yeah, she had no memory of the sketch, or the skirt, and was pretty much underwhelmed. "Oh, a skirt, thank you."

and I know she's a child and their memories are short, and I know it's not personal, and I know that just because I have seriously sharp memories of wishing wishing wishing for things nad never getting them it doesn't mean that I have to try and fulfill everyone's wishes but....

I'm still overwhelmingly SAD. Which is irrational, because she did like it and it is nice and I wanted her to have it. But I guess my hormones think I promissed them a high, and since they didn't get it, they have decided to crash BIG TIME.

Re: dissapointments

(Anonymous) 2018-10-06 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, I'm sorry, anon. It's perfectly normal to feel sad and hurt even though you know your relative didn't mean to hurt you since she's just a kid. My nephew loves anime and Funko Pops. There was one particular one he wanted, so I searched on numerous websites until I found one for a decent price. When I gave it to him, he just looked at it and muttered, "Thanks", then ran off to go play with his friends. His mom later told me he didn't like that show anymore.

Re: dissapointments

(Anonymous) 2018-10-06 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh damn, that's brutal. :( It was incredibly good and sweet of you to do this for your relative, though. I would've loved it as a kid if anyone had paid such careful attention to my wished-for things.

I ordered Peapod grocery delivery because I don't have a car and I needed toilet paper and soda. To pad out the price (there's a minimum), I added some snacks, including cornbread. The cornbread turned out to be out of stock :( I want cornbread now.

Ordered a book and the seller sent it via relatively expensive internatioanl signed-for registered delivery. Got transfered to some ridiculous local company, who dropped it at a "package station" (a messy stack of mail on the floor behind the counter of a local fruit market) but DID NOT TELL ME. And then, when I found out that's where it was because I checked the tracking data, and wanted to pick it up, this guy stands there, and tells me "oh, THAT package. Yeah, we sent that back because it was here over a week". and I had to call their customer service (because the guy at the shop was totally unhelpful aside from giving me their complaints number) and convince them to try to deliver it "again". Give them my number, etc.
Do they ring my bell? No.
Do they call me to arrange a delivery time? No.
Do they hand it to someone who happened to be standing near my gate, with zero attempt to confirm their identity? YES. YES they fucking did.
Fortunately, she was a neighbor who gave me my package.
But seriously, for the amount of money I paid, that was just shitty shitty service and I was miffed.

WOW. That sucks hardcore. I'd sure be leaving pointed reviews, sending emails, and rating them poorly wherever possible. Damn.

Haggis

I love organ meat, so I was prepared for (and actually excited about) the funky taste.

But I didn't expect it to be so watery/greasy.

I'm just loling at the idea of anyone going into haggis with high expectations haha

theatre rehearsal tonight turned out to be 60% seriously irrelevant warm-up games, and the part that WAS scene rehearsals was pretty rushed with no chance at repetition or solidifying.

Gravity Falls. It was good, but clearly not the masterpiece so many of my friends were raving about.

Yuri on Ice. The characters and their dynamics were not at all what I expected from the trailer.

Banana Fish's animated adaptation is just a mess and its new fandom is scary.

Best not to say anything about vegan faux cheese. Just... don't.

Can I say adult life as a whole?

Vegan faux cheese tastes like sadness to me. I'm not to deep in the Banana Fish fandom. What's scary about it?

House hunting be like... can I sell you my major structural problems, pest infestation, years of built up cigarette funk, and 60s kitchen and bathroom for the low low price of not even in your budget?

I've seen two in the last week that have been trashed, graffiti inside and out, and still in a price range you'd expect for something nicely maintained. One of the agents tried to tell me it was in a good area. Yes. Real gentrified. Next you'll be telling me the graffiti was part of a modern art display, and that's not a gang tag on the front fence.

West coast? I swear it's like that from LA all the way up to Vancouver. We just managed to get in under the wire before it shot up really bad here in Seattle, but we still paid a frankly ridiculous amount for a townhouse.

I once went to see a house that had really nice new kitchen appliances... and some really obvious structural problems. I'm not blinded by all that stainless steel, guys!

CW for sexual assault

[personal profile] syncing_feeling 2018-10-07 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Going to university, relocating 300 miles away for it, then dropping out of it halfway through after being sexually assaulted. I went into a pit mental health-wise and completely lost interest in everything and just stopped attending.

I'm really grateful for what I got to enjoy of my time in uni, but I feel like a failure everyday for throwing it away like that and wish I'd stuck with it. I feel like I wasted an amazing opportunity and I think about it all the time.

The weather has been windy and cloudy and cold all day and I really want it to rain. We got a little drizzle earlier in the week, but I wish we’d get a proper downpour or twenty. So many people around here are pissed whenever it rains and complain that they live here for the nice weather. I always want to tell them that they can move to Death Valley or the parts of north Africa where it rains every hundred years or so and see what it would look like here without rain or unsustainable artificial irrigation. Also why the fuck are all the “I hate rain I wish it would never rain again haha” people lawn devotees? Fuck lawns, grow something useful or native or at least beautiful.
